Missives from
The Baron and Baroness of Andelcrag
08/21/11 - August Missive
As the drums of war are quelled, do we Logan and Zaynab, turn Our thoughts to harvest, hearth and home and send
you fond greetings,
It is once again time to cry Havoc and choose Our Equestrian and Archery Champions for the year. We would
like to thank Duncan and Dorothea for their service. If you are interested in competing for either Champion
position please contact Us to let Us know your intent before Thurs Sept. 1st at
. For information on what
will be happening as the competition and for exact times please contact the appropriate champion, Lord Duncan
at and Lady Dorothea at
. The Equestrian Champion competition
will take place on Saturday and the Archery is tentatively set for 12pm on Sunday. Since the call for
participants is so short notice, We are not requiring an A&S entry, but they are still very welcome.
As most know, Havoc is a rather large demo on Saturday. It would be great to see lots of populace there to
show the public what we do. I will be hosting an arts and sciences salon on Saturday under the Baronial tent.
Please bring your projects to display and work on! I will hopefully have bookmarks for kids to color that can
have their name written in calligraphy on them with SCA contact info on the back. I could use another willing
couple of people to help write names! I will also hopefully have snacks, if you want to please bring some to
share (the snacks will be for us only, not for the public).
The autocrat is also in need of a rapier marshal so rapier activities can take place. I would love the populace
to be able to see an example of the rapier community so if you can marshal, even just for the afternoon,
please contact Lady Merraede at .
We will be holding court at 2pm on Sunday, as modern festivities call me away for the evening.
And now for a Pennsic wrap up.
The hospitality of Andelcrag was on the lips of many this war. Again our Hafla remained the highlight of
their war and some camp members heard it's renown while doing laundry in the "real world". The populace tent
was transformed to a sultan's palace with rugs for the dancers and a gallery for the musicians. We had amazing
food, shaved ice, great homemade wines, meads and ciders and Turkish coffee. The musicians stayed and played
even after the dancers tired, we even had a few stay to play for us as we cleaned up, and what music it was!
We again had the best of Pennsic playing for us including a beautiful singer from Turkey. We heard that
several musicians now plan their Pennsic around our Hafla. Thanks to Miriam, Hauviette and Rutger who
coordinated the event and also to all who made the Hafla a success!
Thank you to Miriam, Hauviette, Leigh Ann and Joe, Archie, Gryffth, Dirk and Suniffa, Failenn and Felix and
Madeleina for feeding camp breakfasts and other meals too.
Our Andelcrag army, though small, had a great time with all the fighters making it back whole and hale.
Congratulations are in order to two of Our baronial fencers, Colette and Martin. They both were chosen to be
on the rapier champions team. There are several great YouTube videos take by baronial members. Logan was able
to get some great footage of the mountain pass battle and you can view it at:
http://www.youtube.com/user/SyrLogan#p/a/u/0/ui5-WIps-0M
Lawrence, an Andelcamper from Ohio has this footage of the A&S side of Pennsic:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A7cxS7gK6M&feature=related
Vinca has several videos of all sorts of things, here's one of a fire dancer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV6kM602tgg&feature=related
And one of opening ceremonies:
http://www.youtube.com/user/VincaTaviani#p/u/6/HzHzqaTStQI
Looking forward to next year's Pennsic, we are hoping to make many silk banners to grace the front of camp.
We also may not be able to land grab next Pennsic and need to find someone who can. Please ask Us at an
event what it entails. The first week is fun; food tents open on Sunday morning, shopping starts on Tuesday,
classes start on Wednesday and pick-ups on the list field start as soon as people can get out there with
armor! Please let Us know if you think you can go for the first week of Pennsic.
We hope to see lots of Our populace at upcoming events in the barony. Havoc in Hastings is Labor Day weekend,
Vineyard Raids is in October and Fall Harvest in November.
We will be holding courts at Havoc, Vineyard Raids and Fall Harvest and We need award recommendations! If
you have a baronial recommendation please feel free to talk to Us at an event or email Us at
. Our Court at Havoc will
be on Sunday at 2pm.
If you have any Kingdom award recommendations please let Us know. Please email Us at
and include the persons
SCA name, modern name, award, group and a brief reason why you feel they deserve the award and what events
they plan to attend in the near future.
In Service,
Logan and Zaynab
06/20/11 - Post Border War Missive
Greetings to the Victorious Populace of Andelcrag,
We hope everyone had as good of a time as We did! We extend a huge thank you to all of the Border War Staff and
volunteers. It takes many dedicated people to run an event the size and caliber of Border War and We know you
all worked really hard to make the event great!
We won the war with much credit to the participation of Our populace. The war points were awarded as follows:
To Northwoods:
Armored combat champion
Arts and Science Champion
Archery Champion
Archery Populace
To Andelcrag:
Thrown weapons
Armored Populace
Rapier Champion
Rapier Populace
Arts and Science Populace
We would especially like to recognize the weapon throwers of Andelcrag who scored around 70 pts more than
Northwoods and won us the last deciding point. Please thank them when you see them.
We also laude the Rapier team who were able to "hold the room" 6 times longer than the Northwood's team in
the populace battle.
We thank all of Our champions, Edward, Millicent, Aelfwine and Duncan, for representing the Barony with honor
and grace; to Us it makes you all winners and We are proud to have you represent Us.
We thank everyone who brought A&S projects; Not only did Our populace display many wonderful projects but we
had 10 more entries than Northwoods, which helped us win the Populace point.
We also had the help of Our cousins, Baroness Una and Baron Vlacus of Roaring Wastes, who pledged Their troops
and artisans, and the Scarlett Company, who also supported Our cause, and thank them all for their help. We will
be fighting with them next weekend at Baron Wars.
We would like to note to Our populace that the presentation of the new Pentamere Thrown Weapons Champion and
the award for the annual Border War novelty thrown weapons competition were missed during court. We are
enquiring into why, even though the request to be on the court list was made to the appropriate people by
the thrown weapons marshal, the request was not added to the list.
And last, a special thank you from Zaynab to all who helped her set up on Friday and fed her Friday and
Saturday after she realized the cooler had not made it into the car.
We hope all enjoyed the new "war point" format and had a great day of fighting, friends, shopping etc.
Wishing all a good summer,
Logan and Zaynab
06/06/11 - June Missive
As the weather turns warm and balmy and all are thinking of summer do we, Sor Logan Bey and Hanim Zaynab Barones
send greetings to the good Populace of Andelcrag.
We would like to thank the Canton of Rimsholt for hosting Our Althing. We had a wonderful time and are happy to
welcome Thegn Edward Aelredson as Our Armored Combat Champion and Lady Millicent Lancaster as Our A&S Champion.
We must make special mention of the illusion feast prepared by Mistress Kassia and her dependants. It was a site
to behold, and it all tasted great too! If you were not able to be at the feast, ask to see pictures. Logan and
I are truly blessed to have such a feast prepared for Our event. At Our court we welcomed Thomas Lyon and Ciana
Leonardi de Firenze to Our order of the Salient Hart and Vinca Taviani, Fabiana and Lord Kenneth Greypilgram of
Three Hills to Our Order of the Guardant Ram. We made Liam a Gem of the Mountain and awarded a Butterfly to Eva
van Oldebroek.
We would like to thank the members of Dun Traigh for their hospitality at Death and Taxes. They have a great
site for the event and We hope to see more people attending next year. The bardic expo was well attended and
all the fighters had a great time. At Our court we chose our new rapier champion, Aelfwine Pyttel and We
welcomed Tomasso Francesco to our Order of the Defender of Andelcrag, Johanna to Our Order of the Guardant Ram
and Josephine and Adian as Gems of the Mountain. We also bestowed unto Amanita and Aelfwine the Award of the
Butterfly. We decided to make Istvan, who is a cornerstone of the Barony and works tirelessly for the good of
his Canton, Barony and kingdom in so many ways, a Defender of the Tower. We are pleased to say that the duel
between Blackram and Istvan has come to a close. Logan and I are happy that both of Our excellent fighters are
healthy and hale and will be able to defend the Barony at Border War. We very much enjoyed the duel and thank
them and all who wagered on them for helping fund the Pennsic trailer repairs.
We find this time of peace shattered by Their Excellencies of Northwoods who are invading Our lands. The date
of June 18th has been set to settle this matter. We hope all of Andelcrag can join Us in defense of Our
Barony's borders. There will be WAR POINTS for Heavy Combat, Rapier Combat, Archery and Arts and Sciences.
Please bring an A&S project (no docs needed) to display for the glory of Andelcrag!
Last Border War we received many compliments on Our army. To that end we would humbly request that all those
in Our Baronial Army wear 'Sable, a pile inverted throughout argent between two lightning bolts in chevron
inverted Or' (a white mountain on a black field with lightning bolts pointing at it). We encourage
surcotes/tabards/tunics that are appropriate for your persona or armor style. If you have garb in Baronial
colors (white, black, yellow and green), please consider wearing it! Help Us show Northwoods that we have lots
of Baronial pride and spirit!
We also are in need of gifts and largess to put into small gift baskets for the Royalty coming to mediate Our
altercation with Northwoods. If you have anything you can offer/ make please contact Zaynab at
. We know we have many fine
crafts people in Our Barony and it would be lovely to showcase Baronial talent.
As war seems to loom on Our Baronial Borders, we also hear that the defense of our Kingdom will be needed in
August at Pennsic War. If you reside in the Barony you are most welcome to camp with us at Pennsic. Please
put "Barony of Andelcrag" as your camp when registering for Pennsic. The online Pre registration deadline is
June 15th (10 days away). And as in previous years, you must pre register to camp with the Barony. Please let
us know if you are camping with us by ASAP via email () so we can make sure that
you show up on our list from the Pennsic Land Office. If you know of any one not from Andelcrag who wish to
camp with us, please have them contact us ASAP.
Please fill out a camp form (PDF and Word files are located on the Baronial web site) and return to us by July
12th with your camp fees. The camp fee this year will be the same as last year; $40 for each adult and $15
for each child under 12. Your camp fees help pay for firewood, propane for heating showers and the kitchen
and a continental breakfast Sunday thru Friday mornings.
I hope we will have a few new Andelcamp members. As a reminder to them, pre-registered people receive about
200 sq. ft. the other 50 ft of each persons' allotted space goes to common areas such as space for the
kitchen/shower trailer and fire pit and for safe walkways. You will need to determine not only the square
footage of your tent but how much space the ropes, fly etc. take up. If you are new to Pennsic and have
questions about camping, food etc., we encourage you to talk to people who have been before for.
We will be holding our Hafla on Monday night of war week. Please contact Zaynab () if you wish to bring food
or help out in any way.
If you have any Kingdom award recommendations please let Us know. Please let Us know if there are members of
Our populace that you feel deserved to be honored. Please email Us at
and include the persons
SCA name, modern name, award, group and a brief reason why you feel they deserve the award. If you have a
Baronial recommendation, please feel free to talk to Us at an event or email Us. Our next Baronial Court will
be at Havoc in Hastings.
Yours in Service,
Logan and Zaynab
06/02/11 - Border War Missive
Greetings to all,
As war fast approaches Logan and I wanted to let Our good populace know the format for Border War.
We will be using a points system and it will cover many activities. There are a total of 9 pts. They will be
for the following:
Heavy Combat - 1pt champions and 1pt melee battle
Rapier Combat - 1pt champions and 1pt melee battle
Archery - 1pt champions and 1pt populace
A&S - 1pt champions and 1 pt populace (this is a bean count, please bring entries!)
Thrown weapons - 1pt
What we need you Our populace to do-
Come out and fight or if you don't fight support and root for the "home team"
Bring an A&S entry (no docs needed). Or if you have no A&S projects, please vote!!!! (It's a bean count)
Bring your bows and arrows. The more arrows fired, the more chance of winning the point!
Throw some weapons, or give it a try. It's a Pennsic war point now and the Midrealm needs people.
Come and support the great kids activities. There are lots of them!
There is also an un-official cookie point at the Hafla. Stay, enjoy good company and eat cookies!
Most of all we ask that you all have a good time regardless of the outcome of the War. Northwoods may be
our annual June enemies but they always our friends!
We wish you happy packing and safe travels,
In service,
Logan and Zaynab
04/13/11 - April Missive
Greetings to the Populace of Andelcrag,
We wish to remind all that we are seeking letters of intent for our Armored, Rapier and A&S Champions. We hope
to have many members of the populace enter in to our champion competitions. If you are interested in serving as
a baronial champion for Heavy Weapons, Rapier and/or A&S please email us at
or give us a letter of intent
by April 23rd (Day at the Castle). Some specifics are below.
Armored and rapier combatants will be asked to fight both against the Baron and the current champions as a
requirement. We ask that those vying for heavy weapons and rapier also bring an A&S entry to display. We'd like
Pennsic to be on the Champions schedule, if possible, as being Baronial Champion allows for entrance into the
Known World Baronial Champion Tournaments.
A&S Champion:
We would ask that those wishing to be our A&S champion please bring 3 entries from 2 of the A&S faire divisions
with basic documentation.
The A&S divisions include:
Division 1 - Performing Arts and Letters (poem, music or dance performance etc.)
Division 2 - Textile and needle arts (costuming beading embroidery weaving etc.
Division 3 Technological sciences (stuff from wood, metal, bone etc.)
Division 4 Studio A&S (leather work, calligraphy and illumination, pottery, lampwork etc.)
Division 5 Domestic A&S (food, drink, basket weaving, herbs etc.)
Basic docs should include, what is it, where and when it's from, what was use to make it, what it's period
counterpart would have been made from, why you used what you used etc. and if you have them photos from books,
museums etc. of the type of item ie: Turkish hat, 16th cent. Ottoman empire, plastic needlepoint canvas, would
have been made from "card" paper glued together to form stiff hat base, I used plastic so it will survive a Pennsic
rainstorm , imagine a few pictures here. 1 or 2 pages at most! More Information on the A&S divisions can be found at:
http://www.midrealm.org/moas/criteria/contents.html. The projects/research should have been completed in
the last year.
We ask that one of the entries be something that supports the fighting arts (i.e. - a jupon, banners for heraldic
display, arming coif, leather or metal work for armor, scrolls/scroll blanks for fighting awards, arrows, a fencing
cloak, a type of food eaten while on campaign etc.) Whereas this is not a requirement, it will taken into consideration.
We would also request that if Our A&S champion is attending Pennsic that they try to either teach a class, have an
item for display at the Known World A&S display or do a volunteer shift at A&S point or Pennsic University.
We look forward to the Althing and hope to see many people there.
In Service,
Logan and Zaynab
03/24/11 - March Missive

Althing where we will be once again choosing Baronial Champions.

by April 23rd (Day at the Castle).
We would like to thank the good gentles of Three Walls for hosting a wonderful Winter Revel! It was a great time
with fantastic food and drink. We look forward to next year's cocoa and cordial competitions. We also would like
to recognize the following members of Our populace who We brought up in court. Lady Merraede, Lord Kenneth of
Three Walls and Pietro Sant' Agata Di Militello were awarded Salient Harts, while Moyra Ceallaigh, Amalthea of
Shadowsong and Cecily Talbot were awarded Guardant Rams.
We would also thank the staff of It's all Fun and Games. We had a wonderful time. I myself learned 3 new games.
I will be carrying them with me from now on! Logan is still ranting about Rithmomachy and look for a life size
Game of the Goose at Border War. There were many games, an impromptu sprang class and really great feast that
left everyone full! Everyone who was there had a great time. A special thank you to Lady Morgan Wyn de Bird
and Lady Rebecca Cecini for Our birthday cake and gifts.
We will be holding court at Day at the Castle and The Althing. We need your suggestions for those whom you feel
deserve awards. If you know someone whom you feel deserves an award, please email Us at:
. Please include the persona's
SCA name, modern name, group, the award/s you think the person is deserving of and why you think they should
have it. We look to everyone in Andelcrag to help Us find people who are worthy of accolades. Also please note
that if you have any Kingdom award recommendations to let Us know so we can also make the recommendation to TRM.
We would like to challenge Our A&S inclined members to make small gifts We can use in gift baskets to other
Baronies and members of the Royal households. These baskets will be presented to the Royalty at Border War.
Andelcrag is very fortunate to be a Barony filled with talented and generous artisans. We hope you have the
time to contribute something to show others how gifted a Barony we are.
Lastly, although it is early, there is talk of war late this summer. If you reside in the Barony you are most
welcome to camp with us at Pennsic. Please put "Barony of Andelcrag" as your camp when registering for Pennsic.
Camp forms will be posted in April. The camp fee this year will be the same as last year; $40 for each adult
and $15 for each child 12-6 yrs old. Children under 6 are free. Your camp fees help pay for firewood, propane
for heating showers and the kitchen and a continental breakfast Sunday thru Friday mornings. Remember the online
pre registration cut off day for Pennsic is June 15th. We are hoping to hold another Hafla this year and are
looking forward to camping with many new and old friends.
We hope to see you all at many events and, as always in Our fine Barony, this spring is very full of wonderful
Baronial events to attend.
In Service,
Logan and Zaynab

to promote both target and combat archery. Anyone is welcome to join regardless of skill level. The Rangers will
be lead by Our Archery Champion and at this point two branch captains; one for target archery and one for combat

Best Wishes to all
Logan and Zaynab
08/24/10 - August Missive
Greetings from Logan and Zaynab,
We hope this finds you ready for a bountiful fall harvest.
Much has happened since our last missive,
First, We would like to give an overdue thank you to everyone for a great Baronial Border War. We had a lot
of fun and hope you did too. We tied this year’s war with the Barony of Northwoods and thank them for a great
day of fighting! It was discovered that the rats in Baron Odo’s barley crop were not Andelcrag rats but rats
fleeing the great blue tiger in the east who lost there way, and got hungry. We have given these refugees safe
haven and promise to feed them well.
Border War does not run itself and We would like to extend a special thank you to all who ran things or
volunteered, there are too many to name names. We give hearty congratulations to all who We recognized in court.
We are proud of the talent displayed and service rendered by Our Barony.
Second, a Pennsic wrap up for those who could not attend…
The hospitality of Andelcrag was on the lips of many this war. We hosted a dream dinner, from a benefit auction
last September, which was an amazing success. Our kitchen trailer hosted five master cooks, coordinated by Mistress
Hauviette, and their apprentices who created incredible feats of culinary excellence. Our populace tent was
transformed into a posh dining room and the great musical entertainment was heard throughout camp. It was a
truly magical evening.
Many told me that our Hafla remained the highlight of their war. The populace tent transformed to a sultan’s
palace with rugs for the dancers and a gallery for the musicians. We had amazing food, shaved ice, great homemade
wines, meads and ciders and 30 lbs of Baklava made by Three Hills under the guidance of Mistress Hauviette. The
musicians stayed and played even after the dancers tired, and what music it was! We had the best of Pennsic
playing for us. Thanks to all who made the Hafla a success!
Some more war thank you’s… the Barony was able to staff a half day of positions needed to make the King and
Queens job’s easier. Thank you to all who stood guard duty, retained and manned the Middle Kingdom gate tent. We
also thank Tiberius for coming out both weeks and helping to get the trailer running and camp set up, fighting
hard all week and staying for camp breakdown. It is a big job and we would not have been able to do it without
him. Also a thank you to Miriam, Hauviette, Ilaria, Archie, Gryffth, Frenchie and Catarina for all the cooking
they did all week, we have never been better fed at Pennsic!
Our Andelcrag army had a great time. A thank you to Sir’s Raymond, Lucien and Dirk for providing chivalric
examples for all to follow. (Dirk wins the tough man contest for breaking his ankle in the woods battle and
resurrecting 4 more times before deciding he should walk back to camp). Varius for slugging it out for at least
one day with an awful ear infection and Peter for being fast enough to keep up with Logan in the field battles.
Logan also spent a lot of time fencing this year and thanks Our baronial fencers for making Him feel very welcome,
especially Rutger for pointing out dangerous people, Collete for leading aggressively (and correctly) when others
didn’t and Amanita and Aelfwine for his rubber band gun. Special kudos are in order for Amanita and Aelfwine who
demonstrated the highest nobility with their actions off the field. A young lady and her mother lost all their
SCA gear in a car fire on the way to Pennsic. The young lady is a youth fencer and they saw that all her gear was
replaced through their own donations and the coordination of other’s donations so she could participate fully in
youth fencing at Pennsic and continue to do so after returning home. We know everyone in Our barony has big hearts
and this proves it.
We thank Our first Baronial champions, Gryffth and Amanita for their great representation at the rapier and
armored combat baronial champions tournaments. Both received much praise from their opponents and the gallery.
Looking forward to next year’s Pennsic, We are soliciting gate ideas. If you have a gate idea please bring it to
Us at an event! We are also planning to perform upgrades to the trailer during the first week next year. The
water heater system lived another year, however it’s rusting through in places and is on it’s last legs. We’ve
got a year to decide on and purchase a new hot water system for next Pennsic. If you have any suggestions please
email Us at . We are also
planning to make 4 propane torches for next year to illuminate the camp a little better. We are looking for people
who can come help with camp set up and trailer renovations. The first week is fun; classes start on Wednesday and
pick-ups on the list field start even earlier! Please let Us know if you think you can go for the first week of
Pennsic.
Third,
We hope to see lots of Our populace at upcoming events in the barony. Havoc in Hastings is Labor Day weekend,
Vineyard Raids is in October and Fall Harvest in November.
We will be holding Our Equestrian and Archery Champion tournaments at Havoc. Please email Us at
with your intent if you wish
to participate as soon as you can. We are planning on starting a new Baronial archery corp. This idea came from
Their Excellencies GenRose and Edward and it is a great idea. It is Our plan that Our archery champion will lead
the corp. They will hopefully be able represent Us at Pennsic and lead the Barony to the populace shoot. We will
have more details on the archery corp soon.
We will be holding courts at Havoc and Vineyard Raids and We need award recommendations! If you have a Baronial
recommendation please feel free to talk to Us at an event or
. Our Court at
Havoc will be on Sunday.
If you have any Kingdom award recommendations please let Us know. Please email Us at
and include the persons SCA
name, modern name, award, group and a brief reason why you feel they deserve the award and what event’s they plan
to attend in the near future.
In Service,
Logan Bey and Zaynab Barones
06/01/10 - June Missive
As the weather turns warm and balmy and all are thinking of summer do We, Sor Logan Bey and Hanim Zaynab Baroness
send greetings to the Populace of Andelcrag.
We would like to thank the members of Dun Traigh for their hospitality at Death and Taxes. They have a great site
for the event and We hope to see more people attending next year. At Our court We welcomed Athena of dun Traigh
and Alyssa ap Morgan to Our Order of the Salient Hart. We welcomed Unn Sharonsdottir and William Marshall to Our
Order of the Guardant Ram. We also bestowed unto Vladislav Dragomir and Ernmas O’Mordha the Award of the Butterfly.
We find this time of peace shattered by Their Excellencies of Northwoods, who claim that Baroness Zaynab has sent rats to
Their lands to spread plague and eat Their crops. We find these claims to be preposterous. While Baroness Zaynab does enjoy
the company of rats, She would never want to endanger them and send them on such a perilous mission. To this end We
have also heard that raiding parties have entered Our lands claiming to “be trying to drive the wee beasties back home”.
The date of June 19th has been set to settle this matter. We hope all of Andelcrag can join Us in defense of Our
Barony’s borders.
HRM Radagaisus has requested to see more unit heraldry on the melee field. To that end We would humbly request that
all those in Our Baronial Army wear 'Sable, on a pile inverted throughout argent between two lightning bolts in chevron
inverted Or' (a white mountain on a black field with lightning bolts pointing at it). We encourage surcotes/tabards/tunics
that are appropriate for your persona or armor style. We need your help to show Our King that We have lots of Baronial
pride and sprit!
We also are in need of gifts and largess to put into gift baskets for the Royalty coming to mediate Our “discussion”
with Northwoods. If you have anything you can offer/ make please contact Baroness Zaynab at
. We know We have many fine crafts
people in Our Barony and it would be lovely to showcase Baronial talent.
As war seems to loom on our Baronial Borders, We also hear that the defense of Our kingdom will be needed in August
at Pennsic War.
If you reside in the Barony you are most welcome to camp with us at Pennsic. Please put “Barony of Andelcrag “ as your
camp when registering for Pennsic. The online Pre registration deadline is June 15th. And as in previous years, you
must pre register to camp with the Barony. Please let Us know if you are camping with Us ASAP via email
() so We can make sure that you show
up on Our list from the Pennsic Land Office. If you know of anyone not from Andelcrag who wish to camp with Us, please
have them contact Us ASAP.
Please fill out a camp form (PDF and Word files are located on the Baronial web site) and return to Us by July 1st with
your camp fees. The camp fee this year will be the same as last year- $40 for each adult and $15 for each child. Your
camp fees help pay for fire wood, propane for heating showers and the kitchen and a continental breakfast Sunday thru
Friday mornings.
I hope We will have a few new Andelcamp members. As a reminder to them, pre-registered people receive 250 sq. ft. It
is hoped that 25-50 ft of each persons’ allotted space will be able to be donated to common areas such as space for the
kitchen, shower trailer and fire pit. You will need to determine not only the square footage of your tent but how much
space the ropes, fly etc. take up. If you are new to Pennsic and have questions about camping, food etc., We encourage
you to talk to people who have been before for.
We will be holding Our Hafla on Monday night of war week. Please contact Zaynab
() or Mistress Hauviette if you wish
to bring food or help out in any way.
If you have any Kingdom award recommendations please let Us know. Although the court list for Border War is set, TRM are
attending Siege Of Talonvale and have often attended Havoc in Hastings and Vikings Come Home. Please let Us know if
there are members of Our populace that you feel deserve to be honored. Please email Us at
and include the persons SCA name,
modern name, award, group and a brief reason why you feel they deserve the award. If you have a Baronial recommendation
please feel free to talk to Us at an event or email Us, Our next Baronial Court will be at Havoc in Hastings.
Yours in Service,
Logan and Zaynab
05/02/10 - May Missive
Greetings to the Populace of Andelcrag from Sor Logan Bey and Hanim Zaynab Barones,
As May Day is here, We wish to share some things with Our good people.
First many, many, thanks to the Incipient Canton of Northgate for all their hard work, their members
put on two wonderful events and feasts within a span of 7 days. Both feasts left Us fed into submission.
Both events were packed with classes, children’s activities, great fighting, good eats at the lunch tavern
and visiting with new and old friends. We really had a great time at both events. We are looking forward
to Day at the Castle next year and hope to see the event grow. If you were not able to go this year, it is
well worth the drive to Our northern borders for the event.
Second, We would like to again thank Alexander Blackram, Bijon inn Kyree, and Eva vanOldebroek for serving
both their Excellencies Garth and Kassia and Ourselves. We had a great round of combatants to determine
their replacements and thank all who entered this year. We look forward to seeing those who entered and
many more in Our lists and displays next year. We would like to welcome Our new champions, THL Amanita
Villarosa as our Rapier champion, Lord Gryffet Thorne as Our Heavy Weapons champion and Fiore Rossini as
Our A&S Champion. We know they will serve Us well and are very delighted that they will all be able to
join Us at Pennsic War.
Speaking of Pennsic, deadlines are fast approaching. Mailed pre registrations must be in by May 15th and
online registrations by June 15th. If you reside in the Barony you are most welcome to camp with Us at
Pennsic. Please put “Barony of Andelcrag“ as your camp when registering for Pennsic. Please fill out a camp
form (PDF and Word files are located on the Baronial web site) and return to Us by July 1st with your camp
fees. The camp fee this year will be the same as last year, $40 for each adult and $15 for each child. Your
camp fees help pay for fire wood, propane for heating showers and the kitchen and a continental breakfast
Sunday thru Friday mornings. We will be holding Our Hafla on Monday night of war week, more information to
follow.
I hope We will have a few new Andelcamp members. As a reminder to them, each pre-registered person receives
250 sq. ft. It is hoped that some of each persons’ allotted space will be able to be donated to common areas
such as space for the kitchen/shower trailer and fire pit. You will need to determine not only the square
footage of your tent but how much space the ropes, fly etc. take up.
Lastly, we have some new Baronial officers. Adalasia the Serene has spent 5 years giving the barony
ever-faithful service as the Baronial Exchequer. We thank her for her tireless service and are please that We
have found a willing and able person to step into her position, giving her a well-deserved rest. Her Excellency
Failenn Brecc will be taking over as Baronial Exchequer within the month. We also welcome Hiordis Regginsdottir
as the Baronial Chronicler and Malise ingan Cormack as the Baronial Chatelaine. We know they will all serve the
Barony well.
We were pleased to award the following awards at Our first court at Althing: A Gem of the Mountain to Torian de
Porto Fino, Guardant Rams to Gryffet Hatfield, Earlson Rahl and Tracy of North Gate, a Salient Hart to Berdun
and a Defender of Andelcrag to Tiberius. It was also Our great pleasure to add His Excellency Garth to the fine
roster of those who have been awarded the Defender of the Tower. His service and love of the Barony is an
inspiration to Us both.
If you have any award recommendations, either Baronial or Kingdom level, please let Us know. There will be a
Royal court at Border War and it would be nice to see many of Our people being honored. Please email us at
and include the persons SCA
name, award, group and a brief reason why you feel they deserve the award. For Kingdom award rec’s, please
include their modern name if you know it. If you have a Baronial recommendation please feel free to talk to Us
at an event also.
We thank you for your time and wish you a beautiful spring,
Logan and Zaynab
03/13/10 - Upcoming champions events
Announcements of new Champions tournaments and Pennsic info
To all the Good and Noble People of Our Barony of Andelcrag do We, Logan and Zaynab send greetings.
We hope Our first missive finds you well and enjoying the spring thaw.
Spring brings forth Our first Baronial decision, the choosing of Our heavy weapons, rapier and arts
and sciences champions at the Althing on April 24th. First We'd like to thank the previous champions -
Alexander Blackram, Bijon inn Kyree, and Eva vanOldebroek, for serving Garth and Kassia with the
nobility and honor that goes along with being an exemplar in their particular fields. Second, We'd like
to set forth a few goals for those wishing to offer service to the Barony as a champion...
We would ask that those wishing to be Our A&S champion please bring 3 entries from 3 of the A&S
faire divisions with basic documentation. Information on the A&S divisions can be found at:
http://www.midrealm.org/moas/criteria/contents.html.
The projects/research should have been completed in the last year. If possible We would ask that one of the
entries be something that supports the fighting arts, i.e. a jupon, banners, arming coif, leather or metal
work for armor, scrolls/scroll blanks for fighting awards, arrows, a fencing cloak etc. (As this missive
comes with not much notice this is not a requirement for this year, but it will be expected for next year's
potential champions.) We would also request that if Our A&S champion is attending Pennsic that they
try to either teach a class, have an item for display at the Known World A&S display or do a volunteer
shift at A&S point or Pennsic University.
Armored and rapier combatants will be asked to fight both against the Baron and the current champions as
a requirement. We ask that those vying for heavy weapons and rapier also bring an A&S entry to
display. We'd like Pennsic to be on the Champions schedule, as being Baronial Champion allows for entrance
into the Known World Baronial Champion Tournaments.
If you are interested in serving as a baronial champion for Heavy Weapons, Rapier and/or A&S please
email or give Us a letter of intent by April 17th (Day at the Castle).
Our Archery and Equestrian champions will be chosen at another event/s as event site/s and weather permits.
We will let you know, as soon as We do, when and were these will take place.
We are looking forward to holding Our first court at The Althing. We need your suggestions for those whom
you feel deserve awards. If you know someone whom you feel deserves an award please email Us at:
. Please include the person's SCA name, modern name, group, the award/s you
think the person is deserving of and why you think they should have it. We look to Our people to help Us
in finding people who are worthy of accolades.
We would love to have more photos on Our Baronial web site, including individual photos of you the members
of the Barony, Arts and Sciences projects, anything martial related and people having good times at events.
The photos would only include your SCA name, no contact info etc. We will be working on the details and
consent forms with THL Edward, Our web minister and hope you will all be willing participants.
We would also like to challenge Our A&S inclined members to make small gifts We can use in gift baskets
to other baronies and members of the royal households. We would like to have baskets/ boxes for Their
Highnesses of the Middle Kingdom and Their Majesties of Northshield for Border War. We are very fortunate
to have a Barony filled with talented and generous artisans. We hope you have the time to contribute something
to show others how gifted a barony we are.
Lastly, although it is early, there is talk of war late this summer. If you reside in the Barony you are most
welcome to camp with Us at Pennsic. Please put "Barony of Andelcrag" as your camp when registering
for Pennsic. Please fill out a camp form (PDF and Word files will be located on the Baronial web site) and
return to Us by July 1st with your camp fees. The camp fee this year will be the same as last year, $40 for
each adult and $15 for each child. Your camp fees help pay for fire wood, propane for heating showers and
the kitchen and a continental breakfast Sunday thru Friday mornings. Remember the online pre registration cut
off day for Pennsic is June 15th. We will be attending both weeks of Pennsic this year, are hoping to hold
another Hafla and are looking forward to camping with many new and old friends.
We hope to see you all at many events (and this spring is very full of wonderful Baronial events to attend).
If you don't know Us, please come and introduce yourselves to Us. It is Our great honor to serve you as your
Baron and Baroness.
In Service,
Logan and Zaynab
02/21/10 - Val Day Thanks
Thanks from the new Baron and Baroness
Hello,
Logan and I would like to thank everyone who made our first few hours of being
Baron and Baroness great! A big thank you for everyone who helped us tote
things around and who took over for our Val Day jobs so we could get changed.
On a personal note a huge huge thanks to all who helped get our beautiful garb
done, I really couldn't have done it without you! Thanks you's and hugs to:
Failenn for spending lunches, a weekend and her day off helping stitch coats and
doing the great couched lightning bolts.
Ja'anara for driving out to K zoo multiple times to sew.
Stephany for coming to sewing nights, jumping into garb making with both feet
and helping to sew.
Brenna for making our woven buttons, even with a huge homework project looming.
Duchess Madeleina and Sarah for day of button sewing, some while to coats were already on...
and lastly to Logan who shopped for fabric, fed me, did all the house work and was very patience
while I was in a sewing frenzy.
Again Thanks to All,
Baron Logan and Baroness Zaynab
04/25/09 - Andelcrag Althing
At Andelcrag Althing, Their Excellencies Garth and Kassia Announce Their Retirement
Greetings
His Excellency and I would like to extend our deepest thanks and appreciation to Three Hills for hosting
our final Althing as Baron and Baroness. Everything was absolutely wonderful. We are fortunate to have
such a hospitable populace.
For those of you unable to attend our court, we announced that we are looking to step down. We are honored
to have served as your baron and baroness. It has been an absolutely awesome time for us; we have been
fortunate in having had the opportunity to travel and meet many of you and to see the many skills and
talents of our populace. We appreciate all the love and support you have extended to us. We hope we were
able to represent you to the Crown in a manner pleasing to you and that you enjoyed having us as your Baron
and Baroness as much as we enjoyed fulfilling that role. But the time has come for us to retire. We would
not leave you without someone to look out for you and represent you, so we will be starting the polling
process soon.
If you are interested in serving as the next Baron and Baroness, we would ask that you send us a message
declaring your intent. We will have a page of candidates on the Baronial website, so if you want you may
send a picture to our web minister and he will put you on the page. Lord Edward, please post where you would
like the pictures sent. Please submit your names to us by May 15 and we will hopefully have the page up by
the 20th. Think long and hard as to why you want to be the next baron and baroness, it is greatly rewarding
but it is also a lot of work and commitment. You will be responsible for Pennsic camp so you should plan on
attending this year if at all possible so you can become familiar with everything that involves.
Shortly after Border War we will send out the first round of ballots. We need these returned by July 15th.
Please consider long and hard who you will vote for; this is not a popularity contest. You will want someone
who will represent you well. Please return your ballots as we need a certain percentage of ballots returned.
We will be available to answer questions and talk to anyone who would ask. We are hoping to step down at
Val Day.
Pennsic forms should be available on the baronial website within a couple weeks. Please make sure you register
with Cooper's as you will not be allowed to camp with the barony if you don't.
With deepest respect and love to all,
YIS
Garth and Kassia
Baron and Baroness Andelcrag
