An "Event" is where people in the SCA gather for a day or weekend of activities. Everyone dresses in garb (period clothing) and participates.
A typical Saturday event starts around 9:00 or 10:00. Various activities will be scheduled throughout the day. These may include tournaments, courts, performances, classes, games, contests, arts and sciences exhibits, music, drama, dancing, more... There are often merchants with items for sale you can't find locally. The day often ends with a feast prepared by the group hosting the event.
For longer events, people will camp for a weekend. Typically, people will begin arriving Friday evening to set up their tents. More people will arrive Saturday. Some people will leave Saturday evening, while others will stay overnight. All will leave by the designated end time on Sunday. Sitting around a campfire at night while people around you tell stories or sing songs is a special delight of camping events.
Events are where we do the things we learn and practice during local meetings. You haven't experienced the SCA until you've gone to an event.
