Unto all the good gentles of the Midrealm does Viscountess Kaellyn mac Dermott sends greetings. I hope that everyone has had a safe and happy summer, and has recovered from Pennsic. The new warrant roster has been approved by Her Most Gracious Majesty and warrant cards are now available and were handed out at Pennsic. If you did no receive yours, please send a self addressed stamped envelope to my successor:
(Viscountess Mistress Katharina von der Waldwiese) 7601 Weatherly Court West Chester, OH 45069-2307 As one of my last duties, I wish to stress two important points to all chirurgeons. Firstly, there are quite a few of us these days, and often more than one chirurgeon on duty at an event. As in any first aid situation, the first person on the scene is in charge until he/she hands it off. It doesn't matter what your mundane medical certification is, no one takes control from someone else unless the injured person's life is in immediate life threatening danger. If you are the second person on scene offering assistance, identify yourself to the first person with your name and mundane certification. Offer assistance. That way, the first person knows you are there and can ask for help or hand of if they cannot handle the situation. My second point involves the marshallate. Always remember that the marshals have the authority on the battlefield. NO chirurgeon may tell any fighter no to fight, or tell any marshal to refuse to allow someone to fight. AT most, we may make a recommendation, and/or key an eye open for potential danger. IF there is a hazard, either with a possibly ill/injured person or with the field. Point it out to the marshal in charge and let them deal with it as they see fit. Make a point of familiarizing yourselves with the rules of the list, and let's all work with the marshallate as a team. I have enjoyed my time a s Middle Kingdom Chirurgeon, and I'm certainly sorry to see it end. But rumor has it that my beloved Principality of Ealdormere will become a Kingdom soon as a subject of another land, I can not continue in my office. I wish to thank all who have supported me and how have made this job such a pleasure. Kaellyn |
