WE are a Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) scriptorium dedicated to creating award scrolls for persons in the SCA who have earned recognition through their hard work. The scriptorium formed in 1993 and meets weekly as a working group in a large basement room at our home (AKA the Inn of the Gilded Serpent).

The work load is distributed much as it would have been centuries ago. Some scrolls are decorated and lettered by one person and others are made by a different person for each step from basic layout to border design, painting, text compostion, lettering, rubrication, gold leafing, etc. We share tools, supplies and materials. As a group we are aged from 20 to 50. People come and work for a few years and then move on. Its just part of life. Most of our scribes and illuminators had no experience before coming to this scriptorium, some came as fully trained artists. We train our own people and keep a large resource library of methods and examples from which to learn.

Our objective for this web site is to make ourselves available to other scribes and to make other useful websites available from one location. You will note in our examples page that some works are not award scrolls. Sometime we make stuff just because we think its neat!
