From the Seneschal
There will be a Regional Dance Practace and event in Calontir, Febuary 23rd in Iowa City.
Some of us are planning to attend.
For more details go to: http://www.uiowa.edu/%7Eshadowda/regionaldance.html or see event flyer attached.
No more event waivers are to be sent to corporate.
All waivers (adult and minor) are to be sent to the waiver secretary.
His contact information is:
Oscad de Segovia
Robert Esteves
3317 Rosedale St.
Ann Arbor MI 48108
(734) 973-8540
Oscad@TheLostboys.org

Roster-style waivers are still acceptable for adults, and indeed are preferred for purposes of space-saving.
Standard minor waivers (one sheet per) are still required.
Please send ALL of these to Oscad within a week after the event.
For those who are interested there is a page on the http://www.sca.org/BOD/announcements/ page that specifically asks members to offer comments and/or suggestions to current Board of Directors matters.
For all officers (whether you are warranted or not),
please check out the page under your office at the http://www.midrealm.org/
If there is a schedule on that page then reports are expected for your office.
Many of the officers reports are only due a few times a year and are very short reports; however, they do need to be completed.
Most of these reports may merely be e-mailed in.
Also, I will need to receive a copy of your report to put in the shire file, so please make sure that one is printed out for me.
Pennsic Land Grab
For those interested, the pre-registration page is now up at http://www.cooperslake.com/prereg.htm; however, I have been warned that the web page is not specifically consistent with its information (so you might want to wait a month before you go to look to give them a chance to iron out all of the errors). Also, this year, the information specifically states that you are NOT allowed to purchase additional land. I do not know who is planning on attending or if the Shire plans to camp together... however, if the Shire does camp together a Land O'Crat will need to be selected. The benefit of doing it this way is that the Shire would not loose the spot that we have had for years and if enough people camp together, then you do receive free extra land for a common area based on the number of people you have. If you are planning on going to Pennsic and would like to camp as a group, please let the Runes editor (Rich) know and he can add your name to a section so that people can see who is going and how many individuals there would be.
Demos There are no demos scheduled for February at the time of this printing.
From the Chronicler
The Shire of Dark River also has a Yahoo Groups list on the Internet at:http://groups.yahoo.com/group/shireofdarkriver
Anyone interested can sign up and get announcements and reminders. We will be utilizing this list more in the future rather than the mailing list, which is unwieldy to maintain. You can be in charge of keeping your own account information correct so you will always be assured of receiving any important shire related information.
Runes Input
If anyone has anything they would like included or corrected in the future copies of this newsletter please let me know. Any suggestions are welcome. If any officers would like a "standing" message (such as this one) to run please send it to me via email and I will include it in future copies.
From the Fighter Marshal
Fighter practice has been moved from Tuesday nights to Wednesday nights at 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. The location is still the same: Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church 1201 13th Street Moline, IL 61265. For more information see Daffyd or Gunther.
From the Herald
Those in need of Names or Devices please see me. Get the forms and instruction sheets before working on your Name or Device, then follow the forms and instructions in drafting something. Get this draft to me for a two or three-week review and I'll get back to you with suggestions for a final submission to me, which I will complete and copy for sending up the line. Stay somewhat flexible on your Name and Device until you finalize it for submission. This will give you the best chance for approval on the first try.

Also, please drop me a note regarding the particulars whenever you receive an Award. I need to maintain records on all awards. Information should include the following: Type of Award, Recipients Name (as listed on scroll), Reason for Award (as listed on scroll) and Date of Presentation (as listed on scroll).

Cooks Guild and Stitch-n-Bitch
I talked with Sarah Malaise and we would like to get Cooks Guild up and running again. So the first date of that will be Tuesday February 5th at my house, 1211 31st Street Rock Island IL. Call if you need directions (786-1852). We will be talking about what we want to cook for next month, looking at some cook books etc.

Also, I would like to hold a stitch-n-bitch on Feb 20th. Please bring any problems you have in sewing your costumes, we can discuss ways to fix the problem. Bring your hand stitchery, like needlepoint, etc. and sit and sew. Actually please bring any project that can be done while sitting around and talking with your fellow shire members. Some of the ones that I know of are lacemaking, leather working, basket weaving, banner making, costuming, embroidery, etc. Laura brought a lovely needlepoint kit back from England and I thought that I would make copies of the directions and have a beginners needlepoint lesson using that kit (Thank you again Laura).

I will be having these activities at my house until the summer. In the summer I want to dig a fire pit in what should be a garden area but never is, and do some cool things outside, like soap making and dutch oven cooking.

Thank you.
