| CURRENT ISSUE Greetings, citizens of Dark River. I would like to introduce myself to those in the Shire that do not know me, or know little about me. As I am proud to be your new Seneschal, I wanted to give all of the Populace a chance to know a little bit more about me. First off, a little history. I started in the SCA in 1993 in the Shire of Border Downs, and spent many good years there playing with other local groups. Through my SCA career, I have been a citizen of Grey Gargoyles, Dark River, Barony of Nordskogen, and now have returned "home" and settled permanently in the Shire of Dark River. Persona wise I'm a late 1400's - 1500's Wallachian Romani, or in vulgar terms a Gypsy. Unlike many "Gypsy" personas that I have come across in the SCA, my persona has been thoroughly researched, and I am very knowledgeable of the Rom's people and culture. For those of you that may have an interest in the culture and lifestyle of the Rom in period please do not hesitate to ask me. I am happy to share my knowledge. Also I am a long standing member of the Mercenary Household Shadewe's Company. My interests are varied in the SCA. I am an active participant in rapier, and welcome all who are interested to join us at our weekly practices. I also greatly enjoy brewing, and am looking forward to working with those of you that have the same interest. I hope to see all of you at our business meetings. I have many ideas that I believe would be a great benefit to the unity, growth, and FUN in our Shire. But in order for these things to be accomplished, we need to work together. I look forward to seeing new faces, getting to know all a little better, and doing my part to make the Shire of Dark River the best Shire in the Midrealm. Yours In Service, Lord Dimitri Vladescu Celtic Highland Games, August 26, 2006 The eighth annual Games have come and gone. We got both bleachers (we finally got two!) and four pavilions in place Friday evening. We gave out all 30 Gate Passes we had. Only on lady didn’t arrange to pick hers up prior to arrival. I’m not sure how many of the 30 lunch tickets we used, as I never get these to pass out. They came around twice shortly before noon, as the rain was letting up, but only gave out tickets to those who were there then and requested them. We got our tables and chairs by 8”30, and we were ready to go when the rain came an hour later. It rained until noon, but the first half-hour was the worst, as a strong south wind blew water off the adjacent parking lot causing small streams to run through much of the camp. Fortunately, the Shire Pavilion was on higher ground nearest the Starlight, and those under it stayed dry. The parade was postponed until 12:30, and we only had five in it, as it was inside the Starlight that was probably enough. Our afternoon sessions were all well attended, with good use made of both bleachers. Unfortunately, a half dozen of our people left after the rain and were not available for the performances. (You know who you are.) One lady didn’t show up, due to the rain. The sun came blazing though from 3:00on, giving a couple of good hours to dry out the canvas, etc., before 5 o’clock teardown. The Ceilih went well that night with the food continuing for a long time (drinks to closing I’m sure). Only a couple of our day performers attended, but numerous other Shire members were there at night. Largely due to the rain, attendance overall was down 600 for a $3000 shortfall as a result. I wish to thank all of the following for their help at the Games: Information Tent- Annyse, elisabeta, Eirik, Deja, Ceridwen, Dimya, Caterina, and David Missavage Crafts tent- Ghazaalah, Katerina, Johann, Ysabel, and Katta Kids’ Games- Rhiannan, Kate Gaskin, And Nicole (Gaskin neighbor) Fighting- Dafydd, Drogo, Rolan, Phillip, Wendell, Corkeran, Tesh, William, and Dimitri Parade- Bridget, Katherine Lance, Rolan, and Eirik Volunteers- Taylor Apple and Salvar Special thanks to Dafydd for his pavilion, the list, and shire trailer plus marshalling; Corkeran for his pavilion and marshalling; Caterina for her pavilion; Annyse for kids passports; Rhiannon for kids games; and everyone who helped with set up and teardown. I am trying to get together a list of children in the shire; from birth to 18, to kinda get an idea what ages we have here in our backyard. I ask that any information helping out with this would be emailed to me at farfinlion@yahoo.com I am looking for: Gender Age Birthdate Real name and SCA name Parents: real and SCA name Email for either child or parent of child This will help me in the future when planning activities for the kids. And am also working with the papers to get together the youth for a explore your worls day. It will help the older ones explore their personas ans the younger ones learn more about their world in the past. I am hoping to have this together by the next meeting.
