Event Stewards
THL Annyse Lionstone; AKA Jacqueline Chandler I am very happy to say that this year Lady Katta cel Batrin and Lady Elspeth Runewald are co-autocrats. Some of the better changes to this years event were due to their creative input. The autocrat team will be available during the day to help with any problems that may arise. You will know the three of us by our badges that will state “autocrat”.
All fees can be sent to: THL Annyse Lionstone; AKA Jacqueline Chandler Email:annyse24@aol.com, 1211 31st Street, Rock Island, IL 61201; Phone (309) 786-4759. No calls after 9m please. Make checks payable to SCA-Dark River Shire. Also, if my four year old, Brandon, answers don’t be upset, have a conversation, he’s really a lot of fun. Don’t expect him to take a message.

Site Fees: $5 prepaid $6 at the door; children under 6 to 12 will be $3 prepaid /$4 at the door, children 5 and under are free. Feast: $10 prepaid; $12 at the door; Children ages 6 to 9 will be $5 prepaid /$6 at the door; children 5 and under are free provided they are on a parents lap eating from a parents platter. We always need help cleaning the kitchen. Please make checks payable to SCA-Dark River, Inc.

The Next Boyer
The Old Boyer is getting old, and would like to know which of his three children would make the best heir. So he sets them task and sends them off to see who will come back with the most treasure. One heir is sent to the Land of the Tatars, the Golden Horde; one is sent to the Land of the Vikings; and one heir to the Origins of Civilization, Greece. The story of the Next Boyer will culminate in a dinner theater feast presented in 4 acts You may see the Boyers wandering around during the day asking people to help them with their quest. If you have any (bad) puns, items of interest to present to their father, or would like to be in the presentation of said items, please come prepared and see what happens

We want everyone to participate and so we are going to give you all a passport. Anytime you do an activity at the event, you will receive another stamp in your passport. The passport will act as your site token and, for those of you attending the feast, as your feast ticket too. So don’t loose it, you never know when someone might ask to see your papers. There is talk of a prize for the person with the most stamps. So if you fight, get a stamp from your marshall, if you attend a class get a stamp from your teacher.

Silent Auction
Once again there will be a silent auction. Donations to the auction are eargerly being sought. Please bring all donations to the site the day of the event. This is a really good time to clean out your SCA closets and get rid of things you no longer use. Its also a really good way to find new treasures. Funds from the auction will be used to help keep event cost low, so buy lots. Also, Merchants are asked to donate one item to the silent auction. Lord Eirik Estridsson, (309)786-4759

Merchants
There are no merchant fees, provided that your wares are SCA acceptable, and you donate an item for the silent auction. Set up for merchants will be 8am. We have tables but you might have to set them up. Our merchant space is large and within site of the fighters. Please pre-register with the Event Merchant Steward.

Tournaments
We are planning a heavy weapons tournament and a rapier tournament. Showers ARE available onsite. FIGHTERS PLEASE NOTE: You will need to check in with trolls in order to get your passport. The Marshals will be asking to see them before you enter the tournaments.

Cussin'
Okay so you may not have heard about the no profanity rule that we have with this site. It is real. So instead of making this a negative experience, I would like to offer two suggestions. First, we have discussed the Swearing Jar on Trolls, and it will be put out, but it will be filled only if you feel guilty about saying the wrong thing. All proceeds will go to the Center along with the Troll Money. The other suggestion is that we make this a learning experience. If you must swear please do so in period style. I will post a series of insults and slurs that you may use in place of the common cuss words that we use today. Period cussin’ is more colorful, gentile, and just a lot more fun then today’s lewd and lascivious words.

Arts Faire
The Arts Faire this year is focusing on the four cultures in our theme. Entries should represent one or more of those cultures. The more cultures the more points you will get. Documentation of what items belongs to which culture would be appreciated.

We are also having a Decorate a Bear contest. Of course the bear can be wearing clothing from any of the four cultures in our theme. Again the more cultures that you work into your entry will win you more points.

Ask Lady Annyse FAQ’s about the Arts Faire:
What should you enter?
Anything that is Period, SCA acceptable, a real good effort, your mothers toaster… okay, here is the short answer. Anything. Make it fun.
Why a bear?
Because we are in Russia, silly.
Which cultures are in the theme?
Will you please pay attention. They are Russian, Mongol, Norse and Greek.
What does lewd and lascivious mean? That is technically not a question for the Arts Faire. Go ask your mother. Yes, I know, I’m a mother . . . As an good advocate of the Arts in the Middle Kingdom I really must insist that you do your research. I just know you have a dictionary somewhere in your house.Geezzzzz…stop shouting those lewd and lascivious words at me, they are “rude comments and expressions of lechery”. . . So there! I did to know.

Lunch
Lunch will consist of Beet Soup, Bread, Cheese, Sausage, & Cakes donated by Lady Annyse and created by Lady Estrilda. Lunch will be $3 and will help defray the cost of the site. Tea and Coffee will be available all day at no charge.

Feast
Lady Cerwiden, Lord Eirik, and Lady Felixia Foxhunter will present a feast in four courses, a Russian Appetizer Course, Tatar Course, Viking Course, and Greek Course. After the presentation of the feast there will be an international dessert table. Call Lord Eirik Estridsson, (309)786-4759 with any allergy concerns. Feast should begin at 6pm. Seating will be in tables of 6. You can reserve an entire table for you and your friends when you send in your feast reservations. Otherwise you will be allowed to place your service at unreserved tables at 5pm, but you will need to leave the feast hall until feast begins. There will be off-board seating and vegetarian alternatives

Children's Activities
We will be having some children’s activities, but most of them will be included in adult activities. There may be an activity that will incorporate movie, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, but we are still working out the details.

Check with trolls when you arrive at site for a list of activities that children ages 5 to 12 may participate in. I know that there will be one European Dance and one Middle Eastern Dance designed to teach children. Parents are required to attend all classes with their children. There are not babysitting areas, and children may not be left unattended.

Teen Activities
Volunteer for the White Knights Mentoring Program, Ages 12 to 18. Anyone who is doing interesting things at the event can ask one of the attending teenagers (who have signed up to participate) to be their apprentice for the day.

What would this entail: showing them what you are doing; how you are doing it; why you are doing it; and why they want to do it again some day.
What it should not be:
Good cheap labor for the day – SCA is supposed to be fun, even for the people working.
A blow off activity. If you say you are a mentor, follow through.
An all day activity – they are still young - they need time to hang out.

Suggestions of who might like to be a mentor: Cooks, Trolls, List Ministers, Marshalls, Class Instructors, Merchants, any one working on a project at the event, in short just about everyone that have something to share with our teenagers.

Middle Eastern Encampment
Sayyida Mellilah al-Zarqah and Troupe Rakset al-Nehri will be hosting the encampment, which was well received last year . There will be dancing and other classes of interest in the encampment.

Classes
We currently have wheat weaving, Viking metal weaving, European Dance, Middle Eastern Dance and other classes that have yet to be firmed up. If you would like to teach a class please contact me immediately, I am particularly looking for Russian Dance teachers and teachers that can teach anything in the Viking, Mongol, or Greek Cultures.

Event Schedule
Early set up will be 8AM ~ trolls opens at 9AM ~ site closes at 10PM. This is still being worked on, the final schedule will be available at trolls.

Directions to the Site
From the East (Illinois) on I-80; I-88; or I-74 you will want to take the IL-5 Exit which is where I-80 and I-88 intersect. Proceed west on IL 5 (which will become John Deere Express Way) until you arrive at 60th Street, Moline. Turn north (right) onto 60th Street and proceed straight through the four way stop and go until you see the site on the left hand side of the road. If you get to the Avenue of the Cities you have gone to far.

From the West (Iowa) on I-80 I recommend that you take I-74 through town over the Mississippi River and go east on John Deere Road. 60th Street will be to the north so make a left hand turn. Follow directions above.

If you get lost on your way to the site, please call 309-332-1584 and I will talk you in. Site is on the border of Moline and East Moline, Illinois which can be confusing if you are off the designated route.
