Anno Societatis XLV
DRACO INVICTUS!
Updated 24 Aug 2010
Welcome back to all our friends - old and new. With the Pennsic War behind us, our attention now turns to the more peaceful arts and to the maintenance of our lands.
Now is the time of great Tournaments of skill, prowess and the Arts and Sciences. Please remember to check the calendar for upcoming events.
Please remember to send in your recommendations for Kingdom and Baronial awards. Remember, neither Their Royal Majesties nor Their Excellencies can be everywhere and see everything. We are Their eyes and ears in Their absence. They can not recognize people if They do not know how we think of our neighbors and friends. Making recommendations for the Kingdom and Barony are fairly simple - they both have online forms that can be used.

Dernehealde has a CafePress store. It is a basic store (no fees) and the items listed have no mark-up added to them. The prices you see are what CafePress charges to create these little beauties.
Show your Dernehealde Pride by buying (and wearing/using!) stuff for SCA and/or non-SCA activites!

Summer meetings are on Tuesday nights from 7:00pm - Dark (or 10:00pm, whichever comes first) at Southside Park off Richland Avenue. A map is available showing the route to get there. NOTE: There is currently construction occurring at the Richland Ave/Rt 682 intersection. Please drive carefully.
You can also join Dernehealde's e-mail list at Yahoogroups simply by entering your e-mail address in the textbox on the left navigation column (under "Dernehealde's E-mail List") and submitting it by clicking on the "Dernehealde" button. You will receive a confirmation e-mail that you must respond to in order to be added to the list.
Dernehealde is part of the Barony Middle Marches, in the Oaken Region of the Middle Kingdom as part of the Society for Creative Anachronism. Geographically, we are located in Southeastern Ohio, on the campus of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio in Athens County. We are part of a worldwide organization that promotes the study and recreation of pre-17th century (predominantly) Western European arts and skills. This is accomplished in part by events where members can participate in a variety of activities - from tournaments, arts exhibits, classes, workshops, dancing, feasts, and more. Much of the experimentation and camaraderie is accomplished at our weekly meetings.
If you are new to the Society, I urge you to check the Newcomers' Liason page (the Chatelaine's/Castellan's office) for information about the SCA. There you will find articles on etiquette, customs that are particular to the SCA, and other useful information. I also recommend that you consider joining our shire's e-mail list. It is fairly low traffic, but it does offer a means of asking questions that you may not have thought of at one of the meetings. It also helps in developing and maintaining lines of communication and coordination with other members of the group. We also have a number of Dernehealde 'alumni' who are members of the list.
At an event prior to Pennsic (held in Norborough, 12 July 2008) the Shire of Dernehealde, as a whole, was given
an Award of the Grove - for all that we have been doing
in the Arts & Sciences. This was for all the classes that have been taught, the dance practices and craft nights.
It is not often that a Grove is given to a Shire. Most of the time, it is given to smaller groups who may have a
particular focus in one or more related arts. You can see the full scroll by clicking on the thumbnail image.
I want to thank all the people who have helped make this happen: Lady Rowen (who started up our monthly Bardic Circles),
Estani (who is keeping the monthly Bardic Circles going), Lady Felice for starting up our weekly Dance Practices and
Lord Philip & Lady Isobel for keeping them going; His Lordship Eidiard for teaching such a large variety of classes
is various arts, Her Excellency Isabeau for her encouragement of bellydancing & drumming. And to all the people who
where interested in learning all the various arts. We couldn't do it without you, because if no one comes to learn, we
just end up talking to ourselves.
Our Alumni Page is a listing of past members of Dernehealde who have moved away from our fair Shire. Hopefully it will become a resource for newer members who are moving on from their home Shire of Dernehealde to the world at large.
If you are an alumnus of Dernehealde and would like to be included on our page, please contact the .
If you are so inclined, we do have a photo album, hosted on Flickr so feel free to check it out.
