Updated 18 Jun 2009
Below is a listing of our current members with a little about who they are in the Society.
Per the request of some of our members who are traveling to distant lands, there is now a .pdf of the Shire's device that can be printed out (in color) to use as a "flag."
Her Excellency, Baroness Isabeau de Forbeis, Baroness Middle Marches Isabeau is a 12th century woman of Norman-Scots descent. She was instructed in swordplay by her chieftain father, while her mother raised her and educated her in the genteel arts in her native Norman tongue. She left home after marrying her husband Lord Lamorak, and together they joined the household of Duke Syr Talymar as his squires. Isabeau's interests include heavy weapons fighting, rapier fencing, and equestrian war games. After a journey with the Crusaders, she developed an interest in Middle Eastern music, drumming, and dancing. Isabeau is currently in training for Marshal of Fence and Equestrian Marshal. She currently has the following awards for: Baronial, Kingdom. |

His Excellency, Baron Lamorak of Dunsinane, Baron Middle Marches Lamorak is a 12th Century man born in Scotland at Dunsinane, site of his father's castle. His mother was Welsh and a lover of Arthurian lore, and named him after a lesser known Knight in the tales. He and his wife, Isabeau de Foirbeis, both became squires to Duke Syr Talymar. Lamorak believes a well-rounded person must be able to fight, as well as have skills useful in times of peace. He enjoys fighting, but also makes his own weapons, armor, arrows, and garb. Lamorak has served as Dernehealde's MOS (back before Arts and Sciences were combined), Seneschal, and is currently the Shire's Knight's Marshall (heavy weapons). He is a squire to Duke Syr Talymar and an Apprentice (in sewing) to Mistress Melisande, Syr Talymar's wife. Lamorak is also the current Baron of the Middle Marches. He currently has the following awards for: Baronial, Kingdom. |

Lord Andres Joyce Andres is a late fifteenth century offspring of an Irishman and a beautiful Spanish woman who he met in his travels on the continent. Andres spent much of his formative years traveling through out the known world as a theatrical. This garnished him some praise and banishment from several pubs. It was from this time spent traveling that he learned a fair bit about cooking and later met his beautiful Scottish lady. Because of his travels and his tendency to tell longwinded stories he has gone by many names the least of which being Marcos, the name he came into Dernehealde with in A.S. 41. Andres' interests include cooking, heraldry, dramatic performance, and sitting around roaring fires enjoying stories and ale. He currently has the following awards for: Kingdom. |
|
Lord Botolfr ska Skogtjorn Botolfr is a 9th century Viking. His interests are armored combat, vinting and boating. He participated in the Viking Sail 1000 in 2000 with the Longship company. This event marked the 1000th anniversary of Leif Erikson's landing in Newfoundland. He currently has the following awards for: Baronial, Kingdom. |
|
Lord Cuðbriht se Breowere Cuðbriht is an 11th Century English noble who's family has always held tracts of forest and enjoyed all things outdoors. He has learned, through family tradition and English Law the use of the longbow, although he still struggles to better himself at it. He has also been a victim of wanderlust and the desire to always learn more, thus he has traveled the world, always looking over the horizon for new cultures and experiences. He has been a struggling bard for some time, and also has picked up interests in blacksmithing. Many things overseas have caught his interest, such as some of the musical instruments from the Middle East, and as far as the Far East where some of their clothing styles intrigues and interests him. Cudbriht also fights for King and Kingdom, as is only proper for a good noble, but has been on the field less often as of late due to his curse of wanderlust and, again, his desire to always learn more. He serves as both Shire and Baronial Chirurgeon, and as Archery Marshal for his Shire. He currently has the following awards for: Baronial, Kingdom. |
|
Sgt. Drust MacArlith Drust is a 5th century Pict who has made his living by harrassing the Romans and Northumbrians. He has made a point to study the works (as "acquired") of Agricola (as written by the Roman historian, Tacitus) and Julius Ceasar's campaigns in the Gallic Wars. Imagine the surprise of the Romans when their own fighting tactics were turned against them. Drust has traveled a bit during his early days and managed to find himself in the lands of the Sun, where he met up with an interesting character in the form of Sör Ustad and subsequently joined his household. Whether this is seen as a good thing by the other members of the `the Dreaded` Hasan al Hajjii remains to be seen. He currently has the following awards for: Kingdom.
His Lordship, the Honorable Lord Eidiard an Gobhainn Eidiard is a 7th century Pict who is married to a lovely 7th century Orcadian Pictish woman. Blacksmith, bookbinder, and storyteller Eidiard (or Uncle Eidiard) is known far and wide for his works in the Arts and Sciences, always ready with an idea or a tale to be told. Feared by the Romans, not so much for his fighting but his inability to shut up, he sits in his “Keep on the Mound” and tries to guide people to more and interesting adventures. His efforts to keep people interested came to the attention of Sör Ustad and as a punishment, he was added to his household. This has now given a new meaning to Ustad's household, Ev Korku (House Dread) to friends and foes alike. He is currently serving as Dernehealde's Seneschal and is the author of "The
Anvil's Ring" a regular feature in the Shire's newsletter The Derneheralde. Past offices include
Minister of Arts & Sciences, Marshal of Fence and Marshal at Large of Fence. He is also a Grandfather
Guildmaster of the Honorable Union of Blacksmiths and Metalworkers, Barony Middle Marches under Baron
Sir Thomas.
He currently has the following awards for: Baronial, Kingdom, and is extremely confused by his latest award. He served as Baronial Thrown Weapons Champion for the Middle Marches in 2007-2008, and is serving as the current Baronial Heavy Weapons Champion. |

Lord Estani hasan Ustad Estani is a 15th century Turkish man. Apparently for the last 27 years or so he suffered from amnesia where he has been traveling in the lands of Brendoken until recently. (His mother swears she didn't drop him on his head.) While his memories are coming back to him, many things remain a mystery. He has currently had to learn how to make his own clothing again and to follow his kismet by learning how to heavy fight. He currently has the following awards for: Kingdom. |

Finnseach is protegeed to Master Brusten de Bearsul (called Boar's Bane) and apprenticed to Meisterin Katarina Helene von Schönborn. She has also been recently accepted as a student of Mistress Eithni ingen Talorgain for Pictish Studies where she hopes to learn much from the first person to be laurelled specifically for Pictish studies. Finnseach currently serves as the Middle Kingdom WebMinister. Past offices include Seneschal, Chronicler, Chatelaine and Pursuivant for Dernehealde, as well as Pursuivant at Large and WebMinister at Large. She currently has the following awards for: Baronial, Kingdom. |
|
Lady Lucina la Frepiere Lucina is from a family of fripperers...dealers in second-hand goods and "frippery" sewn from used clothes...in England in the early 1300's. Her brothers gave her a French nickname as a joke for her interest in the fashions of other courts. Widowed twice and with two grown sons, she works in the family business, travels when she can afford it and dreams of travel when she can't. On her mother's side she comes from a very long line of women named "Lucina," one every few generations, as far back as...well, the name is Roman. She currently has the following awards for: Baronial, Kingdom. |

Lord Morgan MacAoidh Morgan is a 12th century Scotsman and the son of a village artisan. As a boy Morgan trained under his father's tutelage in silver smithing and lapidary art. When necessary his father would barter for materials and on many occasions Morgan was employed as a worker/servant to other villagers and artisans as part of barter. On more than one of these occasions he was put to work for another artisan doing grunt labor. Because these villagers recognized his hard work, and in recognition of his curiosity, they were tolerant of his questions and willing to show him some of their techniques. To this end, as a young adult Morgan found himself with tolerable skill in a variety of arts. It was not long after that he left the village behind to find his own way in the world. His wanderings took him throughout southern Scotland and beyond Hadrian’s Wall toward warmer climes. In most cases he turned to trading his skills just to survive, and seldom stayed long in any one location. After many years of wandering and many adventures (including finding his lovely wife Aurelia Du Fauconor), he wandered into the shire of Dernehealde were he discovered an entire group of like-minded souls who offered him friendship and a place to hang out. He can be found there to this day teaching what he can when he can and otherwise tinkering in one art form or another. He currently has the following awards for: Kingdom. He served his barony as Baronial Arts & Sciences Champion for 2008-2009. |
|
Nicole Saye Nicole is a 15th century French lady who enjoys keeping the rhythm of her life at an even tempo and she accomplishes this by playing drums. She also enjoys singing, sewing and embroidery. She currently has not been recognized by the Barony or Kingdom. |

Lord Philip of Dernehealde Philip is unsure of where - or when - he comes from. He travels from place to place and time to time trying to figure out where he belongs. The time and places don’t seem to mind shifting with him. His interest are dancing, fighting, sewing, armor-making and juggling (he wants to learn to juggle knives and fire). He also would like to learn archery, thrown weapons, herbcraft and things related to juggling (poi, diablo etc…). He currently has the following awards for: Kingdom. |
|
Lord Robert Daniel Rohan The story of the brothers, Robert and Daniel Rohan, is one of sadness and despair, at least that's the way Daniel, more commonly known as "The Fishmonger" puts it. He sells more tickets that way. Both were born on a fine Spring day in 1550, so the story goes, in Dunoon, Scotland to the merchant Ferghus Rohan. Robert preceded his brother into the world by approximately 5 minutes, (reportedly because after failing to strangle his brother in the womb by garroting him with his own umbilical cord, he saw fit to attempt to shove his way out by using the top of his brother's head to provide leverage. Daniel claims that one can still feel his brother's footprint in the top of his head, and will allow spectators to check for themselves after a show for a penny.) For the complete sordid tale, check out his A&S Showcase. He has the following awards for: Kingdom. |
|
Lord Rubein Jericho Rubein is a 12th century Germanic traveler, who usually attempts to adopt the clothing style of wherever he goes, yet poorly. He is usually mistaken for a poor man's fool, except when he is in armor, in which case he is accurately identified as a traveler, sporting a Turkish helm, Viking style leggings, and a club. Having very little skills in the most valued areas of medieval times, he tends to dance a little bit, then is chased out of town by the local youth. Rubein is considered to be mostly harmless, even when he spars in the Flourintine, two-sword style. He is currently serving as the Shire's Exchequer and has the following awards for: Kingdom. |
|
Her Ladyship, The Honorable Lady Sabine de Creuequoer Sabine is a late 10th/early 11th century Norman whose ancestor Hugh was on the boat with William the Conqueror(Wace wrote it, so it must be true and the de Creuequoers hardly had to threaten him at all!) She has acquired through a brilliant stroke of luck a most amusing and beloved Saxon who she does not beat (too much). People have reported sightings of a Viking who looks remarkably similar to Sabine at multiple events. Sabine finds anything dealing with string to be addictive and vastly entertaining: spinning, sprang, kumihimo, nalbinding, knitting, braiding. Someday she will weave. Until then, she keeps herself busy marshalling thrown weapons and archery. She also served as Baronial Thrown Weapons Champion in 2006. She currently has the following awards for: Baronial, Kingdom |

Lady Sungyve Morgain Sungyve’s heritage comes from a complex mixture of sources. Her mother was Kasumi, the daughter of a great teacher of ninjutsu; she learned expertly from him, and often posed as a Geisha in order to get closer to her targets. During one of her missions, she met a young Englishman working with traders from Portugal. His name was Nicolas, the banished son of an English noble. He was working now with Portuguese traders under the commission of a great Count. He fell in love with Kasumi, and they spent some time together, before he was forced to leave Japan – but not before the birth of their daughter. The baby was named Sungyve after Nicolas’ dear grandmother. When she was still quite young, however, her mother was discovered while on an assassination mission and was killed. Sungyve left Japan not long after with her father, wanting to see more of the world, and learn more of her English heritage. Sungyve still has much to learn about the world, but she looks forward to learning all that she can. She currently has the following awards for: Kingdom
His Grace, Duke Sir Talymar gan y Llewynn Talymar is an 11th century Welshman (by choice, thanks to his mother), living on the English-Welsh border in Somerset. He is a follower of the old ways, thanks to his dear mother's teaching him to honor and respect them. Talymar has a long and illustrious history in the SCA. He was squired to Duke Sir Andrew of Seldom Rest, knighted at Pennsic 8 and was served as King for Pennsics 9 and 16 and as War General for Pennsic 17 - winning the War Against the Eastern Agression three times (still holds that record), earning him the bardic title of "Hammer of the Tyger." He found his way to Dernehealde and decided to stay here in 1973 (A.S. mumbldysomething).
He has served the Society by serving on the Board of Directors; serving as the SCA Chairman of the International Education Committee; as Deputy Kingdom Seneschal, Baronial Knight's Marshall, Shire Knight's Marshall, Baronial Arts Champion, two times as Baronial Heavy Weapons Champion, and as Baronial Champion of Gladenfeld (in the Kingdom of Meridies). Duke Talymar has the following duchies: Logan, Ohio; Deer Park, Indiana; the Toronto Zoo; and Harlech Castle (Wales). He is the head of his service oriented household, Holt Heroates, which is spread far and wide. He currently has the following awards for: Baronial, Kingdom Duke Talymar has served the Barony as the Baronial Thrown Weapons Champion 2008-2009. |

He is currently serving the Barony as Baronial Rapier Champion.
Xu Xiong Mao Chu (formerly: Lord Joel of Dernehealde) Xu Xiong Mao is a visitor to this wondrous land and is very honored to be here. He has come from Ming dynasty China (circa 16th century) to learn about the ways of the Westerners. He has begun to learn many things including combat with a rapier, the art of the thrown weapon, and some basic juggling. He has been known to tell a tale or two from his travels, and is known to sing when not involved in conversation of some kind or another. For those of us who are not familiar with Chinese titles, the "Chu" portion of Xu's name translates loosely to "Lord" reflecting that he has his AoA. He has the following awards for: Kingdom. |

Lady Zippora Ledayle (a.k.a. Zigana) She is known to her friends and family as Zigana, though she is in the process of adopting an English name for business matters. Zigana requires a second name because she is a Roma – a young woman of the Romany people. Her people generally use a name of the local culture to hide the fact that they are Romany because most governments do not hold much love for these no-nation travelers. At present, it is late in the 16th century and Zigana resides just outside of London, England with her family and fellow Romany. She is an accomplished horsewoman, enjoys doing calligraphy, dancing of all kinds, likes food of almost any culture, and wishes to learn more fencing. Her greatest love, however, and the art she holds the most interest in, is archery. She is still a beginner archer but she is working to advance in the craft. The gypsy (as Romany are commonly known to Westerners) has travelled some with her people and plans to continue to wander. She wishes to see as much of her world as she can and to learn as much as possible about her favored cultures. "The road is wide and the sky is tall / And before I die, I will see it all" She has the following awards for: Kingdom. Zigana is currently serving her Shire as the Minister of Arts and Sciences and her Barony as the new Baronial Thrown Weapons Champion. |
