  • Ancient barley virus carried by Crusaders

    A team of British scientists from the University of Warwick has been able to sequence the genome of ancient RNA thanks to the study of ancient barley from Egypt. The fossilized grain contained the Barley Stripe Mosaic Virus, believed to be a modern disease, which may have been transported to Egypt by Crusaders in the Seventh Crusade.

  • Murder declared in Scotland

    An unidentified 20-year-old man has been found murdered in Kirk Ness in East Lothian, Scotland, but the murderer will not likely be found. The victim, fatally stabbed four times in the back, was killed in the 12th or 13th century.

The Barony of Fenix is the local branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism that covers the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky areas.

We are part of the Middle Kingdom that covers the Midwest U.S. and parts of Canada.

The SCA is an international, educational, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the re-creation and study of pre-17th century technology and culture.

Come join the Barony of Fenix as we welcome our new Baroness and Baron, Sarnat ingen Chormeicc and Ulf von Greiffenburg, and host the regional A&S competition. There will also be a rapier list and heavy fighting list.  Did I mention that there is a working and open Irish Pub on site???

$5.00 pre registered / $6.00 at the door for Persons 5-12 yrs old

Feast Menu and information!!!

In order to maximize the time available after feast for other activities and to allow any lords or ladies with long drives home to stay for feast, all of the dishes for feast will be served at the same time.
The following will be served –
...
Ryse of Flesh – Rice cooked in vegetable broth with almond milk and saffron

Salat – Lettuce and herbs dressed with oil and vinegar

Funges – Mushrooms cooked in vegetable broth with leeks and a strong spice mix of ginger, cinnamon, clove and black pepper

Rapes in Pottage – Turnips and onions cooked in vegetable broth with salt and a spice mix of ginger, sugar, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg

Stewet Beef to Potage – Beef cooked in watered wine with onions, parsley, sage, clove, mace, cinnamon and pepper

Crustade – Chicken cooked in broth with pepper and cloves then placed in a crust with ginger, cinnamon, dried cherries and eggs.

Cormarye – Pork roasted with coriander, caraway, pepper, garlic and red wine.

Custard tarts – Egg yolks, cream, milk and sugar cooked then bake in a crust

No smoking indoors per Ohio State Regulations.

No alcohol may be brought onto site from outside sources, but an Irish Pub will be open from Noon until close, which will serve for site.
