Antonio de Bonfini, Renaissance librarian Master Johannes von Narrenstein Antonio de Bonfini, librarian for King Matthias Corvinus of Hungary during the late 1400s, was in charge of the great library created by King Matthias. He was fluent in the ideas of ancient scholars, upon which Renaissance kings relied for advice on statecraft and policy; he was in touch with numerous heads of state in his pursuit of new books for his king's library, and on diplomatic issues; and he dealt with many scriptoria in Italy and Hungary to produce copies of rare books. The talk will introduce King Matthias and his period in Hungarian history, as well as Antonio de Bonfini and his contemporaries, and review the beautiful works in the Corvinius Library and the library's fate after King Matthias' death.  None  None  1 hour  $0
