
Arts and Sciences
We will have an A&S exhibit with two categories:
Best applicaton of event theme, Moors in Spain and a general A&S show.
The autocrat, in cooperation with a team of special guests will choose
their favorites in both categories. (Notice I didn't say a winner...just
the favorites! That way, we can pick more than one exhibit!!)
| 10:00 am | Annex 1st floor | Yoga for Fighters, taught by Lady Mirabai This class will teach fighters exercises to warm up before fighting and cool down afterward as well as how to enhance flexibility for greater mobility. |
| 11:00 am | Annex 2nd floor classroom | Moorish gardens/architecture in Spain, taught by Lady Mirabai This class will be a slide show photographic presentation of examples of Moorish architecture and gardens around different parts of Spain. |
| 11:00 am (2 hrs) | Church 2nd floor Conference room | Blackwork, taught by the Weaver's Guild of Gwyntarian This class will focus on the Holbein stitch, a simple reversible line embroidery stitch. $3.00 for supplies |
| 11:00 am (2 hrs) | Church 2nd floor Library | Intro to Alchemy, taught by Mael Ruin History, methods (including cordials) and some concepts worth more than gold. |
| 12:00 (noon) | Annex Rapier List Area | Off the Line Fighting, taught by Kanran This style makes use of angles and arcs to maneuver around opponents. Some aspects of this are seen in the Spanish style of fencing, but far greater use is made in many martial arts, and can easily be integrated into SCA fencing technique. |
| 12:00 (noon) | Church 2nd floor Chapel | History of the Moors in Spain, taught by Lady Kateryn Draper This class will focus on the history of the occupation of Spain by the Moors and the legacy of their influence on the Spanish culture. |
| 1:00 pm | Church 2nd floor Library | The Hunt for the Unicorn Tapestries, taught by Baroness Catriona There is more than meets the eye when looking at the Unicorn Tapestries housed at the Cloisters in NYC. Theories concerning the meaning of the images and the history of the tapestries in light of recent research will be discussed. The symbolism of the depicted flora and fauna will be considered. There is a handout available. |
| 1:00 pm | Church 2nd floor Chapel | Spanish Music, taught by Mael Ruin It's not Flamenco, but come listen to a few records and watch a few videos. Guaranteed: One hit that has outlasted 600 years! |
| 2:00 pm | Church 2nd floor Chapel | Jongleurs of Brendoken:learn a Spanish song, sing along, or listen. There were some great Spanish and Catalan Period songs. We can pick one or two and learn them. No charge Children welcome if accompanied by their parents. |

Classes on other topics are also welcome!
