Greetings unto all who read these words from Meister Konrad Mailander, Rouge Scarpe Herald,
This is the Middle Kingdom Letter of Acceptances and Returns for the items on the August 13th ILoI. The schedule for internal commentary was set in the days of mailed letters. With OSCAR commentary it we no longer need to allow time for mailing. So after discussion with Escutcheon and Dragon Heralds the commentary period is changing to one month from the issue of the letter.
My thanks to Aryanhwy merch Catmael, Gunnvor silfraharr, Ginevra Boscoli, Alys Mackyntoich, Jeanne Marie Lacroix, Andreas von Meißen, Modar Neznanich, Lillia de Vaux, Gawain of Miskbridge, and Hiordis Ragnarsdottir for their commentary.
Since the letters are now being posted on OSCAR with documentation and commentary open for all to see I will no longer be copying the documentation or commentary to this letter. If you would like to see the documentation or commentary for this letter please go to http://oscar.sca.org/kingdom/kingloi.php?kingdom=4&loi=1481
SENA refers to The Standards for Evaluation of Names and Armory. These are the new rules for submissions. The old Rules for Submissions (R.f.S.) will also be applied until the October LOAR. As the External Letter of Intent resulting from this Internal Letter of Acceptances and Returns will be scheduled to be decided on the November LoAR at the earliest, only SENA will be used for determining the acceptability of these items.
My decision and comments are prefaced with ROUGE SCARPE: and are in red. Items that are accepted will be forwarded to Laurel as a Middle LoI posted on OSCAR.
1: Danté
Conciapelli da Firenze - New Name & New Device
Vert a fox sejant
gardant Or in chief argent
three harps vert.
ROUGE SCARPE: Name
forwarded to Laurel as <Dante Conciapelli da
Firenze>. The spelling attested in
the documentation provided was <Dante> instead of the submitted <Danté>. Being
unable to find documentation for the submitted spelling it is being changed to
match the documentation provided. Device
forwarded to Laurel with the Blazon: Vert, a fox sejant gardant Or and on a chief argent
three harps contourny vert.
2: Denis de Wahulle - New Badge
[Fieldless]
On a unicorn rampant purpure a heart Or.
ROUGE SCARPE: Forwarded
to Laurel with the Blazon: [Fieldless] On a unicorn rampant purpure a
heart Or. Note that the heart should be
drawn so that it is clear that it is entirely on the unicorn.
3: Nadežda
ze Zastrizl - Resub
Device
Per bend rayonny
sable and gules in bend sinister two cat paw prints argent.
ROUGE SCARPE: Forwarded to
Laurel with the Blazon: Per bend rayonny
sable and gules in bend sinister two cat paw prints argent. The use of paw prints is a step from period
practice per SENA Appendix G. SENA
A.2.B.4 states “An armorial design may have
no more than one such step.” The paw prints are the only Step from
period practice in this design.
4: Nadežda ze Zastrizl - New Correction of Name Change
ROUGE SCARPE: Forwarded to Laurel.
5: Sazia de Sarro - New Name
ROUGE SCARPE: Forwarded to Laurel.
6: Toly
Woodsman -
New Name & New Device
Perchevron argent and azure two tree
stumps eradicated and in base an oak leaf within an ivy vine in annulo counterchanged.
ROUGE SCARPE: Name
forwarded to Laurel. The client should
be informed <Woodsman> is probably registerable
as a late period form or Lingua Anglica form of
attested bynames with the same meaning. Internal commenters found documentation for
the following bynames was found; <Wodman> dated
1332, <Wudeman> dated 1166, <Wodeman> dated 1213, and <Wudesman>
dated 1209 any of which would be more authentic with the 13th
century given name. Device returned for
violating SENA A.3.D.2.a “Slot Machine: There are some period examples in which a single charge
group contains charges of more than one type.
Therefore, we allow two types of charges in a single charge group. Common patterns change the centermost of
charges in a row or the bottommost of charges arranged two and one. However, a charge group with more than two
types of charges is not allowed.”
Here we have tree stumps, an oak leaf, and an ivy vine in annulo all in the same charge group.
7: Xander
Umbscheiden - New Name & New Device
Per pale sable and gules a
polypus counterchanged.
ROUGE SCARPE: Name
Forwarded to Laurel. Device forwarded to
Laurel with the Blazon: Per pale sable and gules, a polypus
counterchanged. Submitter provided
documentation attesting to the pattern, per pale sable and gules with charge(s)
counterchanged.
