Greetings unto all who read these words from Meister Konrad Mailander, Rouge Scarpe Herald,

This is the Middle Kingdom Letter of Acceptances and Returns for the items on the November 1st ILoI.

My thanks to Aryanhwy merch Catmael, Gunnvor silfraharr, Etienne Le Mons, Emma de Fetherstan, Maven Whitlocke, Alys Mackyntoich, Duncan Cameron, and Hiordis Ragnarsdottir for their commentary.

Since the letters are now being posted on OSCAR with documentation and commentary open for all to see I will no longer be copying the documentation or commentary to this letter.  If you would like to see the documentation or commentary for this letter please go to https://oscar.sca.org/kingdom/kingloi.php?kingdom=4&loi=1613

SENA refers to The Standards for Evaluation of Names and Armory.  These are the new rules for submissions.

My decision and comments are prefaced with ROUGE SCARPE: and are in red.  Items that are accepted will be forwarded to Laurel as a Middle LoI posted on OSCAR.

1: Arthur Nathaniel Archer - Resub Device

Sable, a chief raguly bendy Or and vert.

ROUGE SCARPE:  Forwarded to Laurel with the Blazon:  Sable, a chief raguly bendy Or and vert.

2: Boris Movila - New Household Name & New Badge

House Muntesti

Vert, on a mullet of eight points argent a bull passant azure.

ROUGE SCARPE:  Household Name forwarded to Laurel as <Casa de Muntesti>.  The formation House + [name] is not registerable without evidence of that pattern being used in the particular language. The registerable form is House of + [name].  The submitter asked for authenticity for 15th Century Wallachia which would make the language Romanian.  The Romanian for “House of” is “Casa de”.  The submitter indicated no major changes which would have precluded either adding “of” or changing the language.  The submitter was contacted and allowed changes to the designator.

Badge forwarded to Laurel with the Blazon:  Vert, on a mullet of eight points argent a bull passant azure.

3: Briana Morgan of the Valley - New Device Change

Or, a lion couchant sable and on a chief embattled vert a harp Or.

ROUGE SCARPE:  Forwarded to Laurel with the Blazon:  Or, a lion couchant sable and on a chief embattled vert a harp Or.

4: Hiordís Ragnars dóttir - New Alternate Name Change

Estelle de la Mer

ROUGE SCARPE:  Forwarded to Laurel.

5: Muirenn ingen Ragnaill - New Name

ROUGE SCARPE:  Forwarded to Laurel.

6: Petrona da Manciano - New Badge

Per bend sinister argent and vert, in bend an oak leaf bendwise sinister inverted embowed and a holly leaf bendwise sinister embowed counterchanged.

ROUGE SCARPE:  Forwarded to Laurel with the Blazon:  Per bend sinister argent and vert, in bend an oak leaf bendwise sinister inverted embowed and a holly leaf bendwise sinister embowed counterchanged.  This might have run afoul of SENA A.3.D.2.c. Unity of Posture (http://heraldry.sca.org/laurel/sena.html#A3D2c) but the submitter already has this arrangement registered with the badge:  Petrona da Manciano (reg. 08/2011 via the Middle), "Per bend sinister argent and vert, in bend an oak leaf bendwise sinister inverted embowed and an oak leaf bendwise sinister embowed counterchanged," grandfathering it to her.  The original return of a similar design http://oscar.sca.org/index.php?action=145&id=13714 cited the “sword and dagger rule”, currently paragraph 5 of SENA A.3.D.1.  http://heraldry.sca.org/laurel/sena.html#A3D1, as a reason for return.  There is a DC between an oak leaf and a holly leaf which would clear them of the “sword and dagger rule”.  On the previously returned badge they were not drawn clearly identifiable as different leaves enough to count this difference.  It is our opinion that the current submission is emblazoned so that the different leaves can be identified.

7: Rónán mac Eóganáin - New Name

ROUGE SCARPE:  Forwarded to Laurel.
