SENA refers to The Standards for Evaluation of Names and Armory. These are the new rules for submissions.
My decision and comments are prefaced with ROUGE SCARPE: and are in red. Items that are accepted will be forwarded to Laurel as a Middle LoI posted on OSCAR.
1: Aengus O'Nolan - New Name & New Device
Per pale argent and azure, on a chevron three celtic crosses and in base a tower counterchanged.
ROUGE SCARPE: Name Forwarded to Laurel as <Áengus Ó Nualláin>. As submitted the name combined the Middle Irish Gaelic form of the given name and the Anglicized Irish form of the byname. These elements are dated at more than 300 years apart. According to SENA PN.2.C.2. this is not a registerable combination (http://heraldry.sca.org/sena.html#PN2C2). Eastern Crown Herald offered several possibilities but the submitter had checked the No Major Changes box and all of Eastern Crown’s suggestions involved a change of language which is a major change. The submitter was contacted and chose the form being forwarded. Device forwarded to Laurel with the Blazon: Per pale argent and azure, on a chevron three equal-armed celtic crosses and in base a tower counterchanged.
2: Blackstone Forge, Canton of - New Branch Name & New Device
Argent, within a laurel wreath azure an anvil sable.
ROUGE SCARPE: Branch Name Forwarded to Laurel. Device forwarded to Laurel with the Blazon: Argent, an anvil sable within a laurel wreath azure.
3: Brynniulfr Herleifsson - New Badge
(Fieldless) In satire two grozing irons sable and vert.
ROUGE SCARPE: This item was accidently repeated on both the October and November ILoIs. It was sent to Laurel last month.
4: Elek Kalmar - New Name & New Device
Argent, a trident azure.
ROUGE SCARPE: Name Forwarded to Laurel as <Kalmer Elek>. The name is Hungarian and although registerable as submitted it is more authentic to have the byname first followed by the given name. After consulting with the submitter about this he decided he would prefer the more authentic arrangement. Device returned for conflicts with Aodhán Doilfín (reg. 06/1997 via Atlantia), "(Fieldless) A Ukrainian trident head azure." There is a DC for the field but that is the only one. What is depicted in the emblazon is a trident head and not a trident. There is no difference counted between a trident head and Ukrainian trident head.
5: Red Spears, Barony of - New Order Name & New Badge
Award of the Boar and the Gem
(Fieldess) A boar passant Or charged on the shoulder with a hexigonal gemstone gules.
ROUGE SCARPE: Award Name Forwarded to Laurel. Badge forwarded to Laurel with the Blazon: (Fieldess) A boar passant Or charged on the shoulder with a hexagonal gemstone gules.
6: Red Spears, Barony of - New Order Name
Award of the Rosso Bránco
ROUGE SCARPE: Award Name Forwarded to Laurel.
