1: Bethac MacDonald of Cnoc - New Name & New Device
Sable, a circle of six mullets of six points Or, and a mullet of six points Or centered in the circle. A bordure Or.
ROUGE SCARPE: Name forwarded to Laurel as <Bethoc MacDonald of Cnoc>. Insufficient documentation was provided to support the submitted spelling <Bethac> as a period spelling but <Bethoc> was attested as a period spelling so it has been changed to match the documentation. Device forwarded to Laurel with the blazon: Sable, seven mullets of six points one, two, one, two and one within a bordure Or. The submitter should know that there are several possible conflicts that have been brought up in commentary but they are not clearly conflicts and will require rulings by the Wreath Herald.
2: Duncan Burns - New Name & New Device

4: Erin Nic Duglas Crawford Fitzgerald - New Name Change & New Badge
Sable, a sunflower Or within a bordure Or and sable.
ROUGE SCARPE: Name forwarded to Laurel. There are some issues with the construction but Alys Blue Tyger has offered to assist the submitter and I have sent her Alys' contact information. It is our hope that the problems can be worked out during the external commentary period. Badge forwarded to Laurel with the blazon: Sable, a sunflower Or within a bordure checky Or and sable.
Erminois, on a pale purpure two badgers rampant sable. Vert quatrefoil in right hand, Or ale chalice jeweled vert overflowing in left hand.
SCARPE: Returned for low contrast between the tertiary group,
the sable badgers and the primary charge, the purpure pale they are
on. This violates SENA A.3.B.4.a "Tertiary charge groups are
considered to be placed on the underlying charge group and must have
good contrast with that charge group." http://heraldry.sca.org/sena.html#A3B4a
Also having the tertiary group maintaining another charge is also
cause for return.
SENA Appendix I.C says "A single charge group may only have one tertiary charge group on it." A charge cannot be in the same group as a charge it is maintaining, and thus the maintained charges are a separate group from the badgers, and not permitted. http://heraldry.sca.org/sena.html#AppendixIC
6: Hrafna Ivarr - New Name & New Device
Per saltire azure and argent, two ravens respectant regardant sable, and two wolves couchant argent.
SCARPE: Name forwarded to Laurel as <Hrafna-Ivarr>. We have added the hyphen used
with prepended bynames according to precedent.
"When Norse bynames are prepended (added before the given name, as with Little John), a hyphen is placed between the byname and given name in standardized Old Norse. Documentary forms appear in many ways, but a hyphen is compatible with documentary forms as well. As such, we have restored the name to its submitted form. [Digr-Jǫkull Snorrasson, 09/2011, A-Trimaris]"
Device forwarded to Laurel with the blazon: Per saltire azure and argent, two ravens respectant regardant sable, and two wolves couchant contourny argent.
ROUGE SCARPE: Name forwarded to Laurel as <Caitriona Mhuirnech inghean Roibeaird>. According to the documentation the descriptive byname goes AFTER the given name and need to be lenited.
"Quick and Easy Gaelic
Names," by Sharon Krossa (http://medievalscotland.org/scotnames/quickgaelicbynames/#descriptivewithpatronymic)
states: The standard way to form a name using combined descriptive
adjective with simple patronymic bynames for women is: < single given
name> <descriptive adjective (always lenited with certain
exceptions)> inghean <father's given name (in genitive case &
always lenited unless starting with D, T, L, N, R, or a vowel)>
Also according to SENA PN.1.B.1: 1. Single Time and Place: A registerable name phrase must follow the rules of grammar and structure for a single time and place. It may not mix languages unless that mixing of languages within a name phrase is attested as a period practice. http://heraldry.sca.org/sena.html#PN1B1 Therefore the Gaelic <inghean> cannot be combined with the Scots <Robert>. <Roibeaird> is the genitive form of <Roibeard>, the Gaelic cognate of Robert. So the fully Gaelic <inghean Roidbeaird> has replaced <inghean Robert>.
SCARPE: Forwarded to Laurel.
Hus GyldenbroccROUGE SCARPE: Forwarded to Laurel. The submitter should be aware that for registration the naming pattern as well as the elements need to be documented. It is being sent on with the hopes that documentation for the pattern can be found during the external commentary period.
