If you would like to see the documentation or commentary for this letter please go to https://oscar.sca.org/kingdom/kingloi.php?kingdom=4&loi=3621

SENA refers to The Standards for Evaluation of Names and Armory, the current rules for submissions.

My decision and comments are prefaced with ROUGE SCARPE: and are in red. Items that are accepted will be forwarded to Laurel as a Middle LoI posted on OSCAR.

1: Ăthelred Frithuweardessunne -New Name & New Device

Argent, a lymphad under full sail vertical, the sail bearing a Latin cross couped, a chief azure.

ROUGE SCARPE: Name forwarded to Laurel as <Ăthelred Frithuweardessune>. The spelling of the suffix in the documentation provided by the submitter and in SENA Appendix A for Old English is <sune> and we have changed the name to match the documented spelling. Device forwarded to Laurel with the blazon: Argent, a drakkar vert, the sail charged with a Latin cross argent, a chief azure.

2: Bethˇc MacDonald of Cnoc -Resub Device

Sable, a sun Or, between six mullets of six points in annulo Or, a bordure Or.

ROUGE SCARPE: Returned for redraw. As depicted the central charge looks like a compass star and not a sun. It also appears to be around the same size as the surrounding mullets. This causes multiple problems with clarity of charge groups per SENA A.3.D.1. http://heraldry.sca.org/sena.html#A3D1 both in blurring the line between primary and secondary charge groups and having two close varients of a cahrge in one design (referred to as Sword and Dagger.) The sun needs to be drawn as a sun and be clearly a primary charge when compared to the secondary mullets. A good depiction of a sun can be found here: http://mistholme.com/dictionary/sun/
3: Hosokawa Gentarou Masahiro -New Name

ROUGE SCARPE: Forwarded to Laurel.

5: Muirgheal inghean Donnchaidh -New Name

ROUGE SCARPE: Forwarded to Laurel. The submitter should be aware that if what they desire is a specifically Scottish Gaelic name for pre-1200, she has constructed it incorrectly. It should be <Muirgheal ingen Donnchaid>. If what they want is exactly what was submitted it was able to be documented and should be registerable.

6: Orn Harfari -New Name & New Device
