Oaken Region RUM July 8, 1995, in the Marche of Gwyntarian, Akron, Ohio.
The Royal University of the Midrealm for the Ohio/Kentucky regions (Oaken)
will be July 8, 1995, in Akron, Ohio. Hosted by the Marche of Gwyntarian,
the event will be on the grounds of the Goodyear Heights United Presbyterian
Church, 1430 Goodyear Blvd., Akron, Ohio. The site features include an annex
building that is perfect for heavy & light weapons seminars, enough green
space to picnic in, if desired, and a newly ADA-remodeled, quasi-medieval,
roomy, comfy main church building. (Around here, we call it Goodyear Gothic-
it was one of those Goodyear Tire and Rubber Foundation building projects.)
The site is easily reached from the major area interstates--seneschals,
watch your mail for an event data card, to be followed shortly by an event
packet containing site pre-registration and comprehensive city/county
maps.
SPECIFICS: Many classes, covering most of the A&S activities in the Known
World. Look for your favorites at the class registration. !The guest
speaker is scheduled to be Dr. Harry Murutes, a professor of art history
from the University of Akron. He will discuss iconographic symbolism
in medieval art from Byzantine to Gothic times.
The site is in Americans with Disabilities Act compliance, and does have
elevators and restrooms that are more than adequate for those in wheelchairs.
The annex building's ground floor is completely accessible.
Off-street and on-street parking available. The earlier you show, the
better your chances for off-street. The neighborhood is mostly residential,
and you will be directed to acceptable parking.
MERCHANTS: Please see your section under registration.
FOOD: As with all RUMs, there will be no feast. However, Gwyntarian's
Bull's Eye Tavern will be serving a hot lunch. There will be
stew, melons with raspberry sauce, cheeses, bread, and anything
else our (literally) award-winning cooks can dream up. If you've
feasted with us before, you know how good we cook in Gwyntarian.
There will be a 'bottomless mug' drink special available.
