To those gentiles who might care
This was something that Richard of Ditton Priors and I were discussing
last weekend; is it proper to refer to the chivalry collectively as "Knights
of the Society"? The particular instance was in preparing for Williams
'three peer' ceremony, Richard asked how to ask for a knight. He was
fishing for a better term than "Is there a member of the order of the
chivalry to speak..." because he wasn't positive about the term member or
companion. I suggested he ask for a Knight of the Society (mainly because I
had a good idea who it would be) not considering that in some cases it may
be a Master-at-Arms. I was going by the Order of Precidence which
abbreviates the chivalry as KSCA. After considering it, I'm not sure,
myself, if Knight of the Society might not be the proper term.
Any insights? I'd like to hear from the Chivalry (particularly
Masters-at-arms).
