> At the massive (and always open) gates of our fair capitol, I would
> erect a massive monument to our society beginnings...a lofty Ivory
> Tower...the cradle of our civilization...
Somewhere in the shadow of the tower would be an athelier in which there
would be a supply room with shelves piled high with stacks of the finest
vellum and jars of richly hued pigments and all the supplies that the scribes
could possibly want. And in rooms scattered around the outside of the center
room, filled with as much natural as one might want (at any time of the day
or night) would be individual work areas for each master and his/her
apprentices. There would be enough laughter and talk and singing to make the
atmosphere a pleasing place to be; and the sound of good music would fill the
air (there would be enough musicians that none would need take a shift of
more than a few hours -- or as many hours as the musicians wanted to play).
And there would be illuminated books and more illuminated books, donated by
all of the great museums who have decided that, for the greater good of the
gentle arts, these works must be available for use by this new generation of
scribes...
