Many of the fighters in Crown already should have banners, since Finn and
Garland strongly encouraged (as only the Crowns can) their belted and unbelted
champions at Pennsic to have banners. Household or group banners were
considered an acceptable substitute.

I really like the idea of the banners of the competitors in the list being
displayed at the corners of the field. I'm not sure how the banners of the
fighters arming and preparing to arm could be worked in. It sounds like the
traffic flow would get a bit messy.

Also the fighters would need to delegate someone to mind their banners for them,
so they didn't have to think about it when they should be concentrating on their
equipment and their opponent.

Since now I have a pennant I'm proud to display (see above) I have made
inexpensive stands for indoors and outdoors. The indoor stand is a 12 inch
piece of 1 1/4 inch pipe, threaded on one end, which is screwed into a floor
flange (ask for one in the plumbing department). The floor flange is bolted to
an 18 inch disk of 3/4 inch plywood. The whole thing cost six dollars and
easily supports a nine foot banner pole.

For outdoors I had Master Cadwallen weld two one-inch rings cut from the pipe I
used for the indoor stand to a two-foot piece of angle iron. One ring was
welded to the top of the angle iron on the inside of the angle, and the other
was welded nine inches below the top. The bottom of the angle iron was
sharpened so it could be driven into the ground easier (even through a zillion
feet of snow).
