Well, most of my information is hearsay from others and not
self-observed. There may well be great inaccuracies, or things may have
changed, so please take this with a grain of salt the size of a bucket.
I don't want to mis-inform people accidently.
I was told An Tir is very pelican-dominant i.e. that the order there
has the same sort of power and influence the dukes have in the
Midrealm. My source said pelican sponsorship in the way of being a
protoge was nearly essential to get elevated. The same thing was said
of Trimaris. Since this is very different from here, I found that
interesting. Because of that, supposedly both kingdoms tend to be a bit
uncertain about the protoge until they prove they want to serve and
don't just want power. I believe protoges are fairly uncommon in the
hot kingdoms i.e. Ansteorra, Atenveldt, Outlands and Meridies. I know
that in the Outlands, it was really odd to them that I am a duchess and
a protoge. They thought that was a real conflict of interest (How can I
serve as a student, yet lead as a duchess. My thought in response was
gee! I'd feel arrogant if I said I didn't need to learn anything more
just becuase I have a hat.) A lot of folks feel that being a protoge is
a power-hungry thing, as opposed to wanting to serve and wanting help
to learn to do it well. I know that Atlantia has a fair amount of
protoges, and I think the West does, too, although I'm not certain
about it.
Have you considered fostoring your protoge, or looking for a pelican in
the kingdom she is moving to, to provide you with an ear into that
kingdom? It's not a common thing for protoges, like it is for squires,
but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
I hope if anyone with experience in any of the other kingdoms will
comment on this. Like Folo, I always find interkingdom stuff very
interesting, and would especially welcome any corrections to what I've
said up above.
Garlanda
