Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Aoibeann (Evaine, for the Gaelic
challenged ;_)) <-this is a huge grin, yes?!) a tenth century Irish

scribe. I fell in love with Celtic knotwork and the insular majescule
script the first time I saw a page from the _Book of Kells_. I was either
6 or 7 at the time. Many people in the SCA do knotwork. I have put it on
scrolls (beyond counting), clothes, feast napkins, tent flaps, banners,

pouches, and wedding cakes. Well, O.K., ;-) *I* am not actually doing the
cake but I did just complete the knotwork pattern for it. By all means,
leap right in and put your very own knots on practically everything. My
next project is a little folding table and my, hopefully by next year,
Pennsic warchest.

As for the SCA using up vast quantities of time, well, it does that, but
it's so much fun!!!!

Welcome aboard,
   .
Aoibeann

p.s. You might enjoy two books by the Bains. George Bain wrote one on the
design of knotwork and his son Ian has written at least two, one on
knotwork and one on keywork and other Celtic design elements. If you want
them, I will get the details tonight at home and email them tomorrow if no
one else has them handy before then.
