The know World Handbook states that an AOA is " The first level of award
that conveys rank and status in the SCA, giving the holder the right to bear
heraldic Arms and to use the title Lord or Lady . Given at the pleasure of
the Crown - that is , for whatever reasons the reigning King and Queen find
sufficient. It generally followsa couple of years of participation and
service. " Sometimes it is given to someone very new for something special
they have done above and beyond the call of duty and sometimes it can take
years for someone who always works behind the scenes and never gets noticed.
But all in all it does stand for something more than just a pat on the back .
If it has been given to children or anyone for as little as doing some dishes
then I think it has been abussed. Personally I don't think it should be given
to anyone before the age of 15. WE have an award for children , use that one.
Many of us have been in the society for many years and now our children are
growing up in the society. Look back at when you joined . Do you think you
would have been ready to recieve an AOA at 11 or 12 ? WELL? Stop bitching
and get busy writting. If TRH's don't know what is going on how can they give
out any awards!!!
Yours in service to the Crown ,
Siobhan ni Brighde
