of Asclepius (the ancient Greek god of medicine) in the late Middle Ages
and the Renaissance. I'm especially interested in popular images of the
god in southern Italy and Sicily. My purpose is to try to understand what
might have been meant (besides the obvious hyperbole) by the designation
of "new Asclepius" attached to a certain medical empiric in Sicily. Any
suggestions welcome.
