Milord,
There are many-a-factor that one must consider as to the validity of the
'goodness' on the deal.
1) I have seen 'commercial' grade canvas very widely. That which is treated
for both flame and mold resistance can be found for a wee bit more than 3
coins a sq. yr... Those not so treated for 1 coin.
2)The seams should be doubled folded to give them a good seal.
3)If the tent (lodge) is used it may have been treated with loving care or
may posses more holes that the houses of either the Hatfields or McCoys.
Sometimes you can't tell until you are getting a unscheduled shower at 3
a.m. in the morning.
4)Does either one come complete with poles, ropes, and stakes. These can
run into the HUNDREDS of coins depending on size and quantity required.
5)There are other 'option' packages on them? items as Scallops (neat
designed trim that wraps about the tent), or sod cloth (which is another
'flap' that is connect to the tents bottom) which folds under into the
tents interior to prevent water from running inside.
All these items add up.
6)Does the tent have a dinning fly, ground cloth, or tote bags to neatly
pack your prize in when its time to move on?
I am sure there are throngs of people more versed in the in's and out's of
this subject than I. But in my own quest for such period dwellings I have
found that the 'goodness' of any price can be hidden from those of us who
are unenlightened to the "little" things. I know I was!
