        This is a fascinating discussion.

I, personally, feel that anyone should be allowed to wear swords
if it makes them feel important, though if we were going to put a
restriction on who can adorn themselves in such a manner, it would make
the most sense to restrict it to those who have earned "the right to bear
arms" in their respective kingdom. As I recall this statement refers to a
bit more than the right to display a heraldic device (and we certainly
don't restrict that to any class or group).
I bought a sword nearly three years ago but have never worn it at
an event because all it makes me feel is pretentious. Just as I would feel
silly wearing a coronet or any other item of regalia I hadn't earned.
However, it's meaningless to me if I see someone else carrying a weapon.
Only if their ineptitude were so great or their judgement so poor that
they became a danger to those around them would I be concerned. Indeed,
if anything, watching someone toting a tool they don't know how to use
simply for the image of it is a source of amusement to me. Let them make
fools of themselves. It's no skin off my back.
