Johann,

There are tapes and CD's available for learning spanish if you don't
have acess to college or high school classes. Just a note: the
language that we call Spanish IS the Castillian language of the
Iberian peninsula. There is also Portugues, and the languages of
Barcelona (Catalunya), Valencia, Galicia, the Basque, and maybe another
one in southern Spain (Murcia?). Modern Spain has five official languages,
Castillian is the language of government and general mass
communication (but they still have tv stations dubbed in the other
languages).

There are also several conventions for transcribing the tilde ~ and
accent marks into ascii and english :)

There are lots of readable histories and 'flavor' books available.
If you have web access, some of the spanish and latin american
tourism pages are also published in english. Sorry, I don't have
address for them.
