Heather of Shadowed Stars here, helping out her roommate the autocrat
with the folowing announcement.
We're having an event in April come hell or high water (it's Fort
Wayne, so maybe both). Nothing on this is official yet, but we're
lookingat two sites and hope to have one nailed down and an announcement
ready for the Pale by this week.
The event is shaping up to be a small Collegium, and I've been put in
charge of locating teachers. However, there's a theme to our Collegium,
along the lines of "minority" cultures. That doesn't sound quite right,
so let me explain. By "minority," we mean cultures and activities that
you don't see much of in the SCA; for example, we have a bazillion
Vikings and Mongols running around, so it's a safe bet that we *won't*
have classes on Viking and Mongol culture. On the other hand, I know of
a lady who dresses "Viking" but places herself among the Frisian culture
-- with any luck, we'll get her talking. A lady here on the 'Bridge
said that no one ever goes to her period knitting classes; sounds to me
like a minority activity we'd like to push.
One of our Marshalls of Fence is also a calligraphy person, and with
any luck, he'd like to have an extra couple of MoFs about so he could
take off and hold a round-table critique of scribing works-in-progress.
Think of the A&S critique held at Coronation -- non-competitive
atmosphere, pointers and such offered, notes compared, that kind of
thing.
One last thing: we chose as a date -- provided this all becomes
official -- April 4, so as not to conflict with the Barony of Rivenstar
(? or was it Sternfeld?) on the 18th. They were falling over themselves
with gratitude, so we imposed a condition: His Highness Jafar has to
come teach a class. If anyone would be kind enough to get word to him,
if it hasn't been done already, that would be cool. (Jafar is a Spanish
Moor, and you don't see many of those running around either).
So! Teacher types with unusual vocations, please reach me at
pix@fortwayne.infi.net and we'll arrange to get you set up. Autocrat at
this time is my roommate, Riley Cashel mka Ellen Murtland, also
reachable at this address. For sanity's sake, please put either
"Heather" or "Riley" in the subject head ing so we can keep things
straight. Master Hroar is our publicity guy and "Godfather," because
godfather sounds nicer than "merchant-o-crat." *grin*
So far, her's what we know: There will be fighting and fencing for
sure, and we don't know yet about archery or equestrian. There will
DEFINITELY be dancing -- are you kidding, this is Shadowed Stars -- and
a feast, prepared by Sheika Aminah bint Abdullah -- are you kidding,
this is Shadowed Stars! Somewhere before I joined the Shire, I'm told
that we had legendary-quality feasts. I *do* know the motto is "No one
leaves the table hungry at a Shadowed Stars feast." Just ask Henry Best
about our little Renn Faire potluck in September. *grin*
More info will be forthcoming from Master Hroar or whoever reachers
their keyboard first; hope to see merchant and teacher info start coming
in soon!
Many thanks,
Heather of Shadowed Stars
