Yeah, have the same problems! My mundane last name is Burnell. I get
Brunell, Brunelle, Burnel and variations like those. My mother's first
name is Guenveur. You can imagine what she has to got through. Our voices
sound almost identical and whenever I go home for visits I answer the
phone as an old habit. Her name is pronounced "Gen-ver" but I can always
tell if the person calling knows her or not. Typically if they do not
know her they pronounce her name "Guinevere" like the Arthurian
character. Actually Guenveur is a Breton surname that was my
great-great-grandfather's last name. My mother's family has a tradition
that one kid in every generation gets that name either as a first or
middle name. Mama got it for her generation, my cousin Terrence Guenveur
Harper in Indianapolis has it for his generation and my niece Elena
Guenveur Petrou has it for her generation.

I was thankfully spared.......but my legal name is Sarah and I have been
called Sally since birth. Some of my ID has Sally and some has Sarah. I
am perpetually asked, "So which one are you?"

Duh - look at the picture on the ID!

                                   Lady Saradwen Ariandalen
Sally or Sarah but I prefer
                                         Sally.......--
