Greetings!
I have the distinction of having four first names. Carroll, as a last
name, is *never* spelled Carol. One of the fun aspects of that was I
had the last laughs on some little twits in the third grade who thought
they'd pull one over on the new girl by signing a book from the school
library (honor card system, you signed your name on the card and left
it in the box) in my name, then hiding the book. They spelled my last
name "Carol." Well, I thought I would ditch that problem when I got
married and did the hyphenation thing. Wrong. People all think my
name is "Carol Clark" now....
And *why* does everyone seem to assume there's always an "e" on Clark?
Cheers--
Nicolaa de Bracton
(by the way, that's NICK-o-la; I'm usually too busy to correct people :-)
