While we are on Jafar stories, allow me to tell a few of my memories htat
bring a smile to my face and a slight pang to my heart at knowing we
will never again experience his joie de vivre:
The first time I really met Jafar was at a rather........um........wild
12th night post revel at a Red Roof Inn (Dagan Grimkirk, you know of
which one I refer!). It was pretty rowdy and there were some ladies belly
dancing in a room where we were all having a really good time of it.
Jafar was there and we met that night and I will admit to having had a
bit to drink (one of Dagan's squires had brought a bottle of something
akin to Bailey's Irish Creme, something I will admit to a weakness for!).
I drank that and God-only-knows-what-else. I wasn't s***faced but shall
we just say really mellow (to the point of later just falling asleep at
the party.......). I really liked Jafar and I was also a wee bit
embarrased at his having met me when I was...........not myself. But he
was really pleasant and I found him to be charming, funny and gracious.
After that at events he would smile at me or say hello or whatever and I
always felt honored that he seemed to recognise me.
At the most recent Crown Tourney, during court, when Jafar and Kenna were
crowned at Prince and Princess, they were crowned with the big heavy
"ancient and honorable" Tanist and Princess crowns. They were then
presented with the new Prince and Princess regalia that the recent
treasure chest raffle raised the money for. BUT - they were instructed
that just for that evening they were to wear the "Ancient and Honorable"
coronets to remind them of the weight of the burden of being royalty. As
court proceeded they quickly doffed the old heavy coronets and plopped
the new ones on, disobeying TRM orders, much to the amusement of the
crowd. They were permitted to continue wearing the new ones, however.
Later that evening, Jafar changed coronets every few minutes as he
mingled with the crowd. I joked with him that he was truly a
"man-of-many-hats"! We both got a good laugh out of that one.
I will truly miss his warmth, his graciousness, his humor and his joie de
vivre. It seems so cruel and unfair that a mere few weeks after winning
Crown Tourney, cruel fate struck him down and took him from us. I guess
it verifies the old song lyrics that "......only the good die young."
Rest in Peace, Your Highness. Good Night, sweet Prince. And may flights
of angels sing thee to thy rest.
