I've tried more than once to say something about my old friend,
Scott Hall. None of what I had written seemed right, though. So I'll
just start by showing what sort of person he was. Three stories about
him in particular come to my mind...

I first met Scott Hall a long time ago--he was 16 years old at the
time, and attending the same High School I had (which is how I met
him--introduced by a mutual friend who was still at that High School.
I was 21, and at Purdue). I met him at an SF convention (RiverCon,
in Louisville). Our mutual friend brought him into my hotel room, where
a toilet-paper-projectile fight had just ended (I have some odd
friends). Scott came into the room and looked around at all the bits
and pieces of toilet paper scattered around the room (on the furniture,
hanging from the light fixtures, on the window, etc.) and uttered the
first five words I ever heard him say:

     "So. Who popped a zit?"

And then he *grinned*. I learned that this was characteristic of him--
lightning-quick wit, humor, and a sense of charm that took most of the
edge off of his smartass comments. I gained a new friend that day, to
my great good fortune.

Now we go forward more than a decade, to the Cloved Orange event
last May. By this time, Scott had also become Jafar al-Safa, Knight,
Pelican, one-time King of the Middle (who also was kind enough to give
me my AoA), and all kinds of other really neat big-time things. As some
may remember, we had something called the Decorate-a-Duke contest at
that event. Jafar participated. I was the person who introduced the
participants, ending with Jarl Master Corwyn. Unfortunately, there was
something rather impolite about Corwyn written in on my copy sheet.
Which I announced, because the Prince of the Middle made it a Royal
Command. As for where it came from, well...that's what happened when
I let Jafar get hold of my copy sheets...

In addition to humor, Scott was also gentle, kind, and caring.
Several years ago, my father passed away. Scott was there for my mother
and me--emotional support that was greatly appreciated, especially by my
mother. He didn't have to do that, but he did anyway.

That's what Scott was like--and I'll miss that. At least I was
fortunate enough to have known him.
