If it's the one I think you're talking about it was in 1980 and
during the hottest part of summer. half of us felt like curling up

Long ago in Meridies, they held the first "Peers and Associates" event. The
idea of apprentice and protoge was still new and people wanted to discuss what
it all might mean.

I travelled with John the Bearkiller and his assorted household. When we got
close to the event I began to wonder outloud if they would let me in or not
seeing that I was neither a peer nor an associate.

John being John told me not to worry about it. He reached into the back seat
and handed me a pink belt and told me I could be an "associate squire". I
wore it all week end.
