It's a trilogy. I don't have the second book, but the third is called _A
Fish Dinner In Memison_ and is also quite good (was apparently a cult
classic). At times Eddison struck me as being a little too supportive of sex
role stereotypes, but perhaps considering his era, he was actuaally ahead of
his time. I agree, he is an amazing writer.
The title of the first, and the name of the planet, are alchemical
references. Eddison was very inspired by the philosophical aspects of
alchemy. They come out very clearly in the third book.
(I knew I wanted an ouroboros on my coat of arms ever since I read the books
a few years ago. By now, alas, I would probably be turned down if I tried to
pass my arms...I don't know if ouroboros's are even allowed anymore. One of
my Cleftlands friends passed one, too, so I might come too closely into
conflict, although I think his is or and mine would be argent, and our
backgrounds are probably different as well, so who knows - it wouldn't hurt
to try...)
