Well, five minutes to write, five minutes to look up the address
I was in the society for three years before I found out that
Corwyn Draca,
that turns into half an hour searching for your missing Pale, fifteen
minutes looking up their status on the OP, an indeterminate amount of time
trying to inconspicuously find out what events they're going to be at, or
even their full name! If you're direct and lucky, call it fifteen minutes
for that process. We're looking at 45 minutes, minimum, with quick and
easy access to everything you need. If the royalty has e-mail it
eliminates the trip to the post office, the misplaced stamps, the
malfunctioning printer, the illegible handwriting, etc, but even then you
have to also have e-mail and regular access to a computer or it adds more
waiting time. Then, of course there's the six-months-to-a-year of having
the letter written and sitting on your desk amidst piles and piles of
half-finished projects...
people even write recommendation letters for awards. given the level of
organisation in the life of the average SCAdian and the lack of spare
time, it's no wonder people complain about not having the time.
looking a little pessimistic today
