Umm, Dafydd, where exactly does Corpora VII.C.4. say anything about whether
Regardless of how it is sometimes (or often) popularly mis-used, "Sergeant"
In other words, the correct use is "{Person's Title} [Person's Name],
the thing is prefixed before a person's name or comes after it? Corpora
VII.C.4. talks about any and all unofficial styles & titles. The classic
examples, of course, are "Squire", "Apprentice", and "Protege" but others
("Brother", "Captain", etc.) are also used. No mention of whether a person
using such a style or unofficial title must use it before or after their
name (and on the very rare occasions when I have heard someone refer to
himself as "Squire {So-and-So}" it has sounded incredibly pretentious).
is NOT a title. If it were, the Middle Kingdom would be violating the
section of Corpora that Dafydd referred to. By Kingdom Law XVII-1303, the
proper usage is as an alternate to "Companion of the Red Company" (for those
members of the Order who are not also members of the Chivalry).
Sergeant of the Red Company". Any other use is unofficial (and, therefore,
available to anyone, whether a member of the order or not ... for instance,
a person who wanted to recreate a Templar persona would logically call
him/herself a Sergeant, as that was a junior rank in the Templar Order).
