First off, if she was that crushed, perhaps she ought to contact the judges
and ask to speak to them in regard to the feedback, however nominal, given.
That is why we include our contact info on the Judging sheets. Judging at
Kingdom is always going to be tougher, but I would hope that she would not
be too discouraged as to completely give up.
Judges *should* give constructive feedback, you're right about that. We as
judges can make or break someone with a mere comment. We as artisans and
entrants are putting our hearts on the line, as our work reflects our
creative souls. I know how hard it is to even enter an A&S and take that
risk of laying it all out on the line.
Have her contact the Kingdom Minister of Arts and Sciences, Lord Charles
Oakley, and the new Judge's Coordinator, Lord Patraic O'Docartaigh, if she
feels that the judging was entirely too unfair. They can take it from there
and perhaps speak to the judges about their comments or lack thereof.
And please, tell her NOT to give up. I know it is hard when one is once
burned, but perhaps the next time she will have a better experience of it. I
did better my second time around, going from 2nd places at both Regional and
Kingdom to 1st places at both Regional and Kingdom the next year. Tell her
to use this as a learning experience.
That is my advice, anyway...........
