I also agree with this... I've been playing some 20 odd years now and
can truthfully say that awards come a) when you least expect it and b)
when THEY feel you deserve it. I have seen AoA's come as quickly as a
weekend in the society and as long as 20 years ( an oversight, I assure
you...). The average for AoA's used to be about 2 years of steady
activity. I think it still is... But one should never play in the SCA

just with the thought of getting awards as that is the surest path to
dissapointment, and makes for much bitterness when you feel that you are
not earning what you deserve. The aim of the game is fun - not awards.
Awards are useful in letting the rest of the populace and the recipient
know that their efforts are being noted - but they should not be the
be-all and
end-all of a persons SCA existence. We are here to learn, to have fun
and to make friends who like the same crazy things we do!
