There really does seem to be a great deal of misunderstanding about what
the A&S venue is, versus what it should be. It IS a Critical revue of
the work, often as to it's "ability to be put into a Museum without
anyone noticing it's a copy/fake." Sometimes it is judged by the
experts, sometimes by non experts (read 'people who know less than the
entrant), and sometimes by people who were the experts 15 years ago, and
who haven't necessarily kept up with the reasearch. The research IS an
essential element in those projects at that level (regional/Kingdom).
I have seen brilliant work judged badly, and visa-versa.
The frustration of some entrants is understandable, and it's part of the
reason different venues are being tried. Please tell your friend that
some A&S events are user friendly (verbal judging/discussions), and to
please get more information...
