As a suggestion, for those of you who want horsehair for your fishing
lines....

 The cowboys, for their horsehair ropes would simply groom their horses and
save the hair untilthey had enough for a start. If you were to volunteer to
groom the horses, I'm sure the owners would be happy to let you have any
long hairs that came loose.
