My daughter was seriously ill with food poisoning this year and out of
school for ten days, with a doctors note saying she needed to be home
because of it during the first semester. Then, she was absent one more day
in December to attend our wedding. I received a nasty gram shortly there
after from the principle explaining to me that this was unacceptable.

Second semester I decided that she could go to Disney World with her
grandparents. 5 more days absent... again the principle, NOT a happy

camper, I received another letter sent home to me saying that if there was
more time taken off of school, he was required to inform the state.

My daughter was in kindergarten this year, a grade which in some states,
you aren't even required to send your child to. Also, with the explanation
she came home with from Disney about photosynthesis (sp?) and hydroponics,
I guarantee you that she learned more from the vacation at Disney, than
coloring pictures
