Angel,
If this is how you truly feel about the nature of fighters and men, then I
feel sorry for your ladyship. In my own life, I hold the words of my own lady
with such high esteem that I married her. I dare say that no words ever
spoken to me by a Knight or fellow fighter has carried me so far. I truly
hope that one day you chance to meet with opportunity to witness a chilvaric
act, and do not let the moment pass without getting to know the person, who is
behind the act.

I am also thrilled with hte idea. Of course, being what i am, I
cannot believe that it would work. Fighters react wonderfully to that whole
'verbal pat on hte back' from a knight, if for no other reason than that is
validation of their male bonding, primal beat-each-other-to-pulp activites.
It is acceptance from and in a thing they already enjoy. Romaniticsm is not
something men get excited about once the immediate flush of heady warmth,
call it lust or love, and once a woman has been won, they tend to realx in
thier efforts. THey no longer have to want, or chase, to get her affection.
It is a chalenge surmounted, and the habit fails quickly, being not of thier
nature. Their attention goes on to the next challenge, and their energy is
diverted.
Now, I'm not saying that they never have feel anything wooshy, or
that they are incapable of all thoise things a woman thrives on. I'm just
saying that it's not their main interest, or something that sticks in thier
mind. So rewarding this, however public, won't change the basic being of men.
They wil still be busy thinking about the fight to come. They will still be
focused on finding that calm, or the weakness in their opponents. It's hard
to remember that the Lady next to you is thinking how great your tush looks
in armor, or how kissable you look after a heated battle. Telling them how
wonderful this little thing was will make them smile, and they'll feel good
for a bit, but it's nowhere near as big a deal for them as it is for us, so
it doesn't leave as big an impression. and it will never be as memorable as
when Sir so and so told him this or that move was. THAT will last.
Now, granted, in hte SCA, you find a MUCH more genteel breed of men.
It is possible, given the quality of most I've met, that it will have more
effect than on your average male. I am in favor of attempting, and always in
favor of anything secret and sneaky....};) If anyone wants help designing a
ribbon to denote the most romantic of our lords as encouragement, drop me a
line.
And I understand Vitus entirely. I hate being taken out of context. I
have enough trouble being understood for what I DO say.
See you at Border Raids... is there no feast there?
        Angel
