Lady Ayesha,
That's 'exactly' what we're talking about. I found out about that little
tidbit about fisherman's sweater's threads and was told that someone had
written a book which debunked that. I found that hard to believe and have
began my 'own' research to confirm my belief in the old tales of
stitches=village. I've sent message to several cultural/social
anthropologists here in teh states, and am seeking out a gew 'key' one in
the UK to help document this. But I would love to see any documentation
that you might have on this subject to add to my debate.
And here's one for ya' Ayesha- Did you know that during the Victorian era
that it was a LAW that both boys and girls were to be taught to knit? Just
something else that snuck up on me while doing my period fishing research.

who wishes his wife knitted so that he might have a sweater
