Sir,
No disrespect intended, but you did ask what this noise was for, and
here is my personal answer to that. As the first event I had ever attended
I attended the coronation of Their Royal (ex?) Highnesses Raghnvalder and
Arabella (sp?). I was amazed and very, very confused about all that was
going on. There were people I had never seen in positions I had never heard
of wearing circlets that meant things I had never known, giving out
promotions I had never known about. Needless to say, I needed all these new
things explained as they occurred. The people around me soon caught on, and
were more than willing to explain in great detail. I am deeply grateful to
them. Yes, this did cause some whispering, but no one around us seemed to
mind, or at least they didn't voice it, and I don't believe the herald had
any problems, as he was rather good, I think. So I guess my point is that
not all conversation during court is bad, so make sure you know what kinds
of conversations you are silencing before you do so. As for the herald
being the voice of Their Royal Highnesses, I sincerely doubt that they would
have minded a newcomer being educated in the ways of the court. Thank you
for your time, again, no offense intended if one was taken.

                                                                    Jeremy
