Many royals do not want electronic enhancement of Court, that's why
it's not being done.
We have the capability to do it at ValDay, and we do offer it, but
in every case, it's been turned down.
Many churches also have mike systems available. The equipment can
also be rented. It's a matter of what the Crown prefers, and the
tradition of natural vocal projection is a very longstanding and
strong one.
As to being there or not being there for an award...I missed being
in court for my Dragon's Heart. We stuck around for court (which was
done after feast, and it was running very late), and I was very
sorry to not have been there for that.
We were staying with friends who lived about an hour away from the
event site, and it was approaching 11pm and court still had not
begun. Our friends had a hot tub and after the long day, that was
sounding mighty attractive.
So we went back and soaked in the tub, swigging down beers...and
when the rest of the crowd got back from the event (well after
midnight), we were summoned OUT of the tub, made to kneel down, and
one of our friends who was a court baroness read the scrolls out
loud.
It wasn't the same as being in court, but it was still fun.

Hmm...so JP, you're thinking that spanking could be a new activity
at ValDay eh? It is an art or a science or a service or a martial
activity? :-)
