>>For anyone like this, myself included, it might make sense to carry a granola
bar or some other non-perishable snack in your SCA stuff so that you have it
in times of emergency. What about those packages of crackers and peanut
butter or cheese?<<
A can of miscellaneous nuts. (or at least a zip-lock bag)
Granola bars are okay, as suggested - I'd suggest being sure they contain
nuts and/or other protein-like stuff as well, since a pure carbohydrate
thing will get absorbed quickly - and leave you worse off later on, unless
you get to feast by then. (Sugar Highs produce sugar lows. Trust me on this. <grin>)
Graham crackers and peanut butter.
Trail mix.
A couple of pieces of fruit and a "slim jim" type sausage.
Particularly at Major Events, when you know Major Things will be happening.
It always help to have something around to munch on - both in the late morning,
in case the lunch Inn opens late, gets sold out early, and/or you can't find the
thing so you have to drive to a fast food place that's only half an hour away;
and in the late afternoon, for those delayed feasts.
In other words, treat events as you would a trip on the typical airlines: there
will be delays, sometimes the food will be inedible/nonexistent, and you need
to have something around Just In Case.
