To inject a note of perspective here, I am reminded of a court/feast a
*long* time ago where the assembled ladies were within 15 seconds of a
choreographed "group faint" when court *finally* broke up, and we were
allowed to *set up* for feast. And the entire Society has, as far as I
know, always been "1000 years and an hour late." This is not to say that
I'm defending it! But this is a long-term, deeply embedded syndrome - it
has been very rare that things do *not* start late, as others have pointed out.

With all due respect and affection, Saradwen, the goal may be good, but
that approach ain't. This is completely contrary to the way we treat our
royalty, or each other - or want to treat either, for that matter. Putting
on a good show, serving the needs of the populace, coping with crises and
disasters, and so on seldom allow for a rigid schedule, and TRM will take a
very dim view indeed of an autocrat or feastocrat telling Them what They
can or can't do.

Cut the royalty some slack, work with Them on when They reasonably expect
things to be able to happen, come up with reasonable alternate scenarios
for Them ("if Your meeting goes late, can we allow our feasters to snack on
this?" or whatever). Don't lay down ultimatums. Life is a whole bunch too
short to get a set of royals and ex-royals furious at you, especially
unnecessarily.

Of course, it's also *wonderful* real-life practice, too!
