There is a French song of Sixteenth Century origin which is called "Ce Moys
de Mai" (the month of May)
It's a really cute mayday song...
This month of may I'll put on my green dress
When I wake up on that pretty morning
That Jolly Jolly month of May
And then goes on to discuss what she'll do once, twice, and three times. :)
So it was certainly a popular mayday color...and we all know what happened
then... :)
