::smiles sadly::
I must add a personal reflection.
Among some papers my mother acquired during her 25-year genealogical work on
the main branches of our family are several letters written by a great-uncle.
This gentleman abandoned his wife and children for reasons never wholly
explained, became a sailor, and traveled around the world for several years
before deciding (again for reasons never explained) to return to his family
and relocate to South Dakota. The letters were written to his favorite niece.
One I shall never forget: It read, in part, "Please remember me after I am
gone, as I am sure no one else will bother."
I cried when I read that, and I never even knew this man. Such a sorrowful
sentiment--and written in pencil, not even with ink.
Let us *all* remember those who have gone before us, and keep them in our
hearts.
